Hyundai Sonata

Well the diesel Cruze is in the shop awaiting on a "reductant tank heater" basically the part that heats the DEF fluid. Seems it is a common issue and so the supply chain is non low. Most dealers that have one in stock do not want to give them up. Can't say I blame them. Hopefully my part will be in today so I can get my car back. This seems to be an issue with the diesel trucks as well.

In the mean time they gave me a 2015 Hyundai Sonata to drive. First off, I found out that it is not what GM was supposed to give me. They are supposed to give another GM vehicle if warranty work is supposed to be done and a loaner is given. Well they messed up on that one.

It isn't a bad vehicle but not the best, to me at least. Rides ok, not as quiet inside as my Cruze, OK power and economy. I turned on all the features that it has, like music on entry and exit. Will be interesting the next person that drives it.

One feature I do like is when you turn off the key, it flashes up on the screen the distance you drove, mpg and range. Like taking Hunter to school it was 3 miles and 35mpg and my range was 80 miles. Cool feature.

We rented one last year to drive 2 hours to the airport and leave for a week so as not to damage our vehicles. It seemed OK at first but by the time I turned it back in I was REALLY glad to get rid of it. I thought the "feature" that tells you to center steering wheel when you start it was funny.

I was considering a Hyundai back when I was looking to trade in my 2011 Silverado. I test drove a few different ones and I liked them, but the dealer wouldn't give me what I was wanting for my truck so I walked. I ended up with my Cruze. Love mine just hoping it doesn't become a problem child like my ex Wife's was.

Few yrs ago we got a rental sonata to drive to chicago for work. It had like 500 miles. Thing wouldnt drive straight and wobbled so bad. At the tool show we went to we had our Rolls-Royce shirts on, we got the "did they let you take the company car", no they wouldnt loan us the helicopter or jet so they gave us a Hyundai.

Ive been gone for awhile, just hoped on to catch up. Wouldnt you know the first thing I read is negative stuff about Hyundai cars. My local GMC dealer has been selling Hyundai for over ten years where ive bought many trucks. That and the warranty are the two reasons why I gave them a look. I have owned four still have three, Elantra ten years old, Geneses five years old, Santa Fe one year old. Cross comparing with any other brand I wouldnt trade for value, performance, ride etc. Love my GM trucks but cars and mid size suvs Hyundai for me.

A guy three houses down bought a Sonata a few days after I brought home my Accord. I haven't seen it in a week, noticed a rental was in its spot. Wonder if it's the car's fault or his.

I had a rental Soul when I was having PPF put on the Accord and I enjoyed it. A ton of room in a small vehicle, decent gas mileage, and a lot of value for the money.

Most people don't realize it now, but Kia's and Hyundai's cost more than most other cars in the same class, especially when loaded. A Sonata optioned the same as my Accord costs a little more. Not sure how they have much "value" anymore. I didn't even look at one because of that, knowing their resale value

Their reliability is tumbling big time for their 2015 and 2016 models.. My mother has a 2008 Santa Fe and it is one ugly piece of crap. Has lots of issues. No thank you. They make some of the ugliest vehicles out there.

My Geneses cost me 31k, my fully loaded Santa Fe on sale cost me 27k and seats 7. I use it for my new hobby after reteirment driving for uber. It's fun, fast and with 50k miles in less than a year reliable. As far as 08 Santa Fe being ugly, most 08 cars are ugly compared to today's model. One more thing my first Hyundai an 01 Elantra my daughter now drives has over 100k miles, oil changes and timing belt that's it. I even had a Geneses coup for a while traded it for my 14 GMC. My brothers challenger rt was glad to see it go. He did like the tail lights thou.

Hyundai Santa Fe Limited 4WD top out around 44k. How the heck did you swing a 18K discount?!?!

One thing they did right was pay off KBB to get a 5 year cost to own award. When it was announced I looked up CTO numbers for a few Hyundai and then their competitors....and it wasn't close. Thousands more to own due to resale value drop. Wonder if they have adjusted the numbers yet so it's not so obvious they were paid off.

It listed for 40K, they had 3 black ones that were on the lot awhile. The GMC, Hyundai dealer where I buy seem to have no problem offering decent trade ins. The Geneses coup that I traded in for my 14 GMC gave me a good return after a year. I did buy that one certified pre owned. 18 months later I traded the GMC in for the Santa Fe. I only buy at deep discounts at certain times of the year to get the discounts. I'm already driving the their lots waiting for the red tag sales. Hyundai, GMC, Buick, if the price is right I'll buy it. Honda, Toyota, they don't deal in my area, and I like to trade often.

Update, had to turn in the Sonata, I thought I could deal with the smoke smell but it was just to much. So went back and they went to put me in a GMC Terrain and turns out it was just as bad. I asked them how can that be when they are supposed to be nonsmoking vehicles. He said that they get charged a $300 fee for smoking in them. You would think they would try to get the smell out, maybe soak the inside with Fabreze?

So the only thing they had was a 2016 Ford Edge Titainium. This thing is loaded, which is odd for a rental. The Sync system takes some getting use to and I like the fact that it hooks up to my iPhone va bluetooth super fast. By the time I get in and crank the vehicle, it is playing music. Mylink takes a while to connect.

Economy for the 400 mile trip was average of 21.8mpg. I guess that isn't to bad for an AWD vehicle with the Ecoboost engine. It has push button start, which I'm not sure about yet. Kind of like it but then I already went to turn it off and I only had it in netural and it was off. I thought I pushed it all the way to park, but some how I didn't. Can't remember but I know you can't pull the key out if you don't have it in park, correct?

Not as quiet inside as my Cruze. Can't compare it to the trucks since I have a 2002 and our Acadia is quieter.
