Just a thought, but if someone is willing to do a total transmission fluid exchange on their 8sp to see if it clears things up using AMSOIL's fluid. Send me a PM with your name, email, phone number and UPS delivery address and I will send enough fluid for the dealer to do a complete fluid exchange basically 16qts.  Of course the dealer will state that it would not help or will not be covered under warranty. They tend to do that if you don't use GM fluid.   Since you guys are already having an issue I don't see how this will hurt and might help since it is a higher quality fluid than what GM puts in their transmissions.  I can only send to one person to see if this might work.  I can't be giving away free fluid to everyone. So who ever sends me their info, has posted in this thread their issues and will do this and share the results on here I'll send it to you.

An entire fluid exchange needs to be done. Not just a pan drop and filter change. Both need to be accomplished.

I would take it that this fluid exchange will cost you the labor to have it done along with the pan drop and filter change.  So you would have to be willing to spend that extra cash, but at least the fluid would be free.  (A $240 retail cost of the fluid)

Also when you have it done ask for the empty containers back. So you know, or hope that they did use the fluid.  Better yet, if you can watch them do it would be cool.  I can here at my dealership. It all depends on your dealer and what they will allow in the maintenance bay.

Here are the specs of the fluid. It meets GM DEXRON* VI, DEXRON* HP

AMSOIL ATL

I would do this if my shudder was worse, but it's so slight and only just after startup, so it probably wouldn't be a good benchmark!  Though, when it is time to do a flush, or if it gets worse, I will see if the offer is still out here.  Otherwise, I'll have to buy it like everyone else I suppose!

Not a problem and I understand.  I do offer a GM-T discount so if you are still interested in AMSOIL in the future let me know.

I was reading on another forum, Canyon/Colorado I believe, about their 8 speed issues.  One guy posted that with his truck in part, he revs it up to around 3500 & lets off, as it comes down it jolts/jumps/surges like something in transmission is disengaging or something.  Tried it on my Sierra & it does the same thing.  I can't find the post now to ask about it.  Anyone heard of this, tried it, what is it, fix?

Thanks

i have a shutter but only when maintaining speed around 60mph you can feel it come and go randomly only for a second at a time. also when it up-shifts while not accelerating (coasting/downhill) it shifts very hard into 3rd, other gears are not as bad, same with downshifting but it happens in random drive-cycles, some days it will be fine and then next day on my way to work BAM slams into 2nd and 3rd going down my hill.. it does worry me as i just bought this truck with 80,000 miles on it. very clunky trans but seems to run smooth when mildly to hard accelerating.. i try to baby it while driving but that seems to be when the clunking and hard shifting happens most. shifts great when i get on it hard

So i dropped the truck off this morning and got a bit of attitude from the service rep.  She said the 8 speed is not a smooth shifting transmission.  I said shuddering from slight accelerating from any speed between 45 -70 is not right.  There is 8 speed owners on the internet say theirs is smooth as butter. Her reply "they're lying". I said, "i have owned 12 vehicles and none feel like this", she says " this is an 8 speed, its different, i cant redesign it"  i said " i dont want it redesigned, i want it fixed, its not right" and walked out.

So i have already got a gut feeoing they are going to call and tell me "we cant find anything wrong with it"

Ugh

Samckitt,   ...Find another dealer. My dealer was not immediately setting low expectations. and when I got it back it was better than it was new like a whole different animal. Now shifting is truly very refined feeling like butter. The technology is in there but maybe that dealer doesn't have tech savvy folks ...FiCkSuN Thangs.

The 45-70 shudder is a common enough problem, and they have a tsb on it. Had mine in twice so far, they were on the third revision of fluids last time I checked and I've had mine flush twice..... Both times it's lasted several thousand miles before coming back.....
I'd have to look up the number. but I believe the first time they have to flush the fluids and then after that they are supposed to change the torque converter....?

I haven't had the torque converter done yet. The first flush lasted several thousand miles.
when it started acting up again, I took it in, first technician said he couldn't feel it acting up so I had to wait another 3 months till I got worse. second technician was supposed to do the torque converter however there was a new revision of the trans fluid from the last time that I had it flushed.
so I had to do that first to see if it fixed it per gm.
I feel like it may be on the very early stages of starting to reappear but based on my last time of taking it to the dealer, I'm going to have to wait till it gets worse so that they can actually "feel it!"
What I have found is some people are much more "in tune" with their truck and can feel the imperfections more than others, and therefore you have to wait till it gets worse for some of these people to admit that there's a problem... But both times my transmission went from what you describe, to being super smooth.

My 2018 Silverado 6speed does this and so does my wife’s 17 suburban. I think it something to  do with the exhaust. Truck has Weird shifting vibrations sometimes suburban is super smooth though.

Mine shifts so smooth and crisp it is great, now about two weeks ago it started delaying to Reverse when cold. I took it in and gave GM the TSB for the stator shaft replacement I found on here for this problem. They had the truck all week, finally phoned me yesterday saying they would prefer to drop in a brand new 8L90e rather than just replace the piece.

2015 30,000km Looks like I need a new trans.

I went & got my truck because Florence was heading this way & I didnt want to leave it at the dealership.  Not to mention it had been sitting there 6 days & they have done nothing with it.  When I picked it up the service rep had a different attitude than she did when I dropped it off.  She wants to try a valve body to fix the shuddering that occurs with light acceleration, & without shifting.  She says the part has been on backorder for 5 weeks & she is going to try it on another truck & if it works will do mine.  I don't see how that is going to fix anything, the shuddering happens without shifting gears, valve body controls fluid movement to shift gears.

Dropping my 8 speed 6.2 off on Tuesday I've got 33,000 miles on it now. The shudder has gotten really bad once I hit 28k. The service rep said it's probably a tune update but reading these messages I hope I'm not jerked around. Sure does suck that after paying almost $60k for a truck this is such a common problem and no real solutions have been presented.
