Silverado "High Desert Edition" announced

Recommended Posts

Other than how it looked, I believe it had the same rear suspension that the SUVs had. So no leaf springs, but coil springs. I could be wrong though.

The Avalanche had coils but you got rear air shocks with LTZ package....helped with leveling out a heavy load or trailer.

Doesn't look like it. If it was a light bar they would have a couple lights to show that and also you can tell the top is too low in my opinion. You would normally at least see the light mounts just higher than the cab itself. As said, it's basically just GM bringing back the Avalanche without calling it a different model name, just a special edition trim. The piece right behind the cab looks exactly like the piece on an Avalanche and also the bed rails look like it's more added plastic to tie in with the piece at the cab.

And the Magnetic Ride Control is available on the High Country version of the High Desert...

I'm just not getting the High Desert name. Really confused as to why Chevrolet would name it such when it's an High Country transformed into basically an Avalanche. As someone mentioned above I would have thought it would've been some type of advanced off road terrain vehicle such as the Raptor or Rebel.

I know how I feel... it's shit. They aren't even offering anything unique or exciting or extra capable.

Why not offer a direct competitor to the raptor instead of this shit? All they did was toss a few after market parts and probably charge twice as much for it.

No shit. For the love of God make a damn truck that competes with the Raptors. Hell I heard Dodge is going to put the hellcat engine in a Ram.

Never liked the Avalanche and it continues with this. When I saw the name I envisioned a something of a pre-runner look. Really fooled me...... :nonod:

GM will never have the balls to build anything like that.

Is it more than a 'light bar' added to a crew?

Absolutely. The bed gets a hard cover, side storage compartments, and hard dividers. IMHO the best news is that it comes with the Magnetic Ride Control that is available on the Sierra Denali. I just wish they had kept the wheels, bronze accents, and "Deepwood Green" exterior color that was on the original concept:

I had a couple different Avalanche LTZ's a 2009 with the 6.0 and 6spd and the most recent being a 2011. I really liked them. They worked great for the trailers I towed at the time, offered secure bed storage and rode awesome. For me it was the perfect vehicle and I thought they towed just fine...The rear air shocks were a big plus. The locking bedside containers were nice for hitches, straps, lights...Never used the midgate tho. I agree on the high desert name not making sense, where did that come from?? They could have just called it the avalanche package..

I didn't know they offered the 6.0L in the GMT900 Avalanche.

I personally think it's one of those damned if you do damned if you don't kind of situations. If they don't think GM is scared. But, if they do they're just copying Ford's Raptor and trying to get in on the Raptor style market. Honestly, if I want a pre-runner I'd just buy a 4x4 and turn it into one. Would be better and maybe even cheaper than getting a factory made pre-runner style truck.

I'd have to agree with that also. I mean what are the chances that it would actually match or outsell the Raptor? Probably not very good.

I actually like the Raptor because I think it does a good job for what it's supposed to be, a factory pre-runner style truck. I think the only problem is had was that there was a problem if the frames bending. The only thing I don't like about it is that the tow and haul capacity is pretty low for a full size truck. But, I still understand why they're lower than normal since the suspension is softer. I saw the new '17 Raptor and the only thing I didn't like is that they did what Ram is doing now which is have a big ass billboard on the tailgate. Ram has RAM in the biggest letters that they can on the tailgate now and the new Raptor has FORD as big as it can be on the tailgate. I don't mind emblems, but I don't like the big billboard on the tailgate like that. So imagine the people that think the K2 tailgate emblems think are like a billboard. I remember the early years of the GMT-400 trucks where it had CHEVROLET across the full width of the tailgate. I didn't like that too much, but it's not as bad because being a longer name the letters can't be as big. I guess they should come right off like any other emblem or body trim piece so it's not a huge deal.
