Disable V4 mode?

Recommended Posts

I set my screen so I could see the V4/V8 and sure enough, in manual shift mode (even when I leave it in 5th gear) it will shift back in V4 when there is no load on the engine.

So you guys are saying that mine is the only one doing this?

I guess I see another trip back to the dealership........

I wasn't using M mode properly, now that I know how to do it correctly it does stay out of V4 mode. My problem with V4 is in my aftermarket exhaust it sounds like crap and I can just FEEL a big difference in how it drives when V4 kicks in all the time back and forth. It is very annoying.

It's not the same in M5 for me. Sure it stays out of V4 but my transmission acts like it doesn't know what to do. I get a loud clicking noise from 3rd to 2nd and 2nd to 1st upon decel. Upon hard acceleration it holds the gears longer than in D and shifts much harder.

Interesting topic now that the dealer tells me there is nothing they can do for my shudder issue. They tell me the shudder I am experiencing is due to the 8cyl., wanting to go to 4 cyl. when I first start up my vehicle after it sits for a period of time. I notice this at around 30 to 35 mph. After a short period of time, it will not shudder. I don't know why when it warms up some that everything seems as it should be. To me, there should be NO shuddering at all! I bought this 2017 Silverado brand new a couple of years ago. I only have 6500 miles on it and it has done this since day one. He tells me I can't hurt it and to drive it! Anyway, next vehicle may not be a Chevy!! Mine has the little button you can push for pulling a trailer. If I push that, will it then stay in 8 cyl. mode?

For 115,000 miles my AFM has worked seamlessly and economically.

No shudder, no weird noise.

I leave it in D, use the cruise. Sit back and enjoy.

Why would I disable a device that has helped me average over 27 hand calculated lifetime mpg?

?

There are always some trucks that don't run as smooth, that can be why people hate it and turn it off.

If I get the same freeway mileage with it off, why would I keep it on? My city gas mileage is complete garbage because of the short trips and AFM wouldn't have made it any better. Over 8,500 miles that I've put on it the avg mpg is 12.3. Even a few days ago I was doing some running around, not even trying for fuel mileage just bumming down at 60mph on the freeway, got 24-25mpg over about 100 miles with no AFM on a 5.3 with E30 in the tank too.

All this really is, is a personal preference. Even with it off the same failures can happen with the parts. Mileage may or may not suffer and for some they way the vehicle drives will be noticeable.

My highway mileage is 10% higher with it active. Just say'n.

If you run 75/80 mph everywhere I can see that it wouldn't matter.

It's load based. It's on time would be small.

I don't drive like that everywhere.

Actually, nowhere.

AFM works great with the 6 speed and  3.73 gears on z71 wheels and most importantly premium fuel.  these liittle motor needs as much torque advantage as possible . keep your speed under 65 and your making money!

Mines in fulltime on my 2017. I've tested in an out hiway n city driving. Mpo is minimal mpg change if any but love the response with it in . I hate the up n down shift lag off. I feel at some point it will pre maturely wear my tranny out shifting so much.. just my opinion..

if you dodnt like the AFM i think the 2500 K2 trucks  are un-equipt and might even run fuel injectors still. my 2012 model 2500 trucks shift better than my new 1500..

Check out the Range AFM disabler. ( https://amzn.to/37ZYQgJ ) I am actually doing a review video on it now. I hate to send it out because it's still not complete and private at the moment. But if you're interested send me a privcate message and I will give you a link. I will upload it here when I am completely done with it. Should be this weekend when I am done and have it completed.
