Headlight Illumination Issues

Recommended Posts

Hello, I had a 2014 GMC Sierra SLT All Terrain. The lights were so poor I did not want to drive at night. I went to the dealership a number of times to complain and was told no the lights are good. Then at some point there was a update when they were going to boost the BCM. Well lights were still terrible. I wrote to Car Complaints and they were a ware of the issue. I was informed there was a law suit started in the USA. I bought a complete new light housing for my truck. Not until I bought my 2017 did my salesman finally admitted the lights were really bad. I live in Canada but hopes this helps. Be safe

so my bulbs blew out again, these ones were bought at the dealership early december and i installed them on dec 2nd or 3rd.

i now have it booked in for service friday for a oil change, squeak coming out of the engine (im guessing a pulley...powertrain warranty..) and you guessed it...NO HEADLIGHTS AGAIN.

i thought i would take a look at the bulbs and if you look at the filament inside it is melted... too much power is going to the bulbs, soo much that it has actually melted it...im no expert but that isnt normal...

Was going to help you by measuring so you can compare, but now I’m not.

I’ve already given you advice and you just complain and do nothing

have fun at the dealer

Correct me if im wrong but your post was just saying you think that my software was not updated and only the bulbs were changed.

I have had them verify that i have the latest software, and that the voltage is within the current spec, not the previous software spec that the truck was delivered with back in 2014.

Howdy.... I have had my GMC Sierra SLT since 2014, and have been very fortunate in that the BCM voltage increase and German bulbs have worked very well. It has the signature LEDs which include the Daytime Running Light function. Works great. OK, am saying all this, which everyone knows.

I just saw a headlamp replacement which "looks" great because it appears to split the lighting for the GMC into separate HI/Lo instead of our current single bulb with the shutter. I'm assuming that would mean the Lo beam could be adjusted to give a wider beam throw than what I have now.

It has the ribbon LED which all vehicles now days seem to be going with.  And the descriptor claims daytime running lights. That ribbon LED is really no biggie to me, I just want to have better adjustments for the illumination. I live in a very dark and hilly area.

Sounds great?!?  However, the descriptor claims this lamp assembly is not compatible with the GMC using the Daytime Running Light.  And it is not compatible with the classic body style. So, am wondering if anyone has tried using it.

Lrymal, have a link to those headlamps?

Curious what type of bulbs are used behind the projector lens.

I have installed the Morimoto 35w HID kit in my Sierra and so far happy with the $180 investment-and not having to remove the grille & bumper cap to install new headlamp assemblies but always interested to see what is new.

It is at Amazon, but really... there is no manufacture's link. The picture has ONEBIGOUTLET and a google search has that place as some clearing service. I listed the descriptor from Amazon which is about all I could find.

How long have you been using your Morimoto 35w HID kit?

I've had the kit installed since June or July of '17.

I also have a set of the Morimoto XB LED fog lights that I will be installing to replace the factory halogen fogs.

I have LED fog lamp bulbs and am SUPER happy with them. I also installed an HID kit from The Retrofit Source and couldn't be happier with the output form them. For the cost of the HID kit ($170), I would do it again 1000 times over vs using the factory set up. I highly recommend the HID's. With these and the LED fogs, I am very pleased with the visibility at night.

I recently purchased these LED's from diode dynamics. Has anyone had any luck with them?

Just saw the video on the install of these, fitting perfectly behind the dust cap. These look like exactly what I’ve been looking for, but they’re backordered. You get them direct from site? And did you install yet?

PS: The Retrofit Masters is still ducking me in asking for a refund for weeks now! Driver side portion of the kit will not illuminate. I’ve checked the common part swaps yet cannot seem to get it to work.
