Gibson Exhaust still leaking!!!!????

Recommended Posts

I have been having a hell of a time with my Gibson exhaust. It is leaking on cold startup where you attach the exhaust with the stock clamp. You can hear it very clearly when you start it. Any ideas what I can do to fix this? Any tricks?

I took it to one already and now it's leaking again. That's why I'm looking for advice.

Two words: Muffler Shop.

$20 bucks and move on with life. No reason to continue to live with a leaky exhaust.

Either the ball and socket joint is out of whack and bent somewhere or they aren't aligned correctly when tightened down. Possibly not tightened down enough and working loose? You shouldn't be having this much trouble with it. You can always have a v clamp connection installed if you don't want a weld. They are reliable but around $30 for a clamp alone.

I had this problem with my metal mulisha exhaust when I first put it on. I went to my local muffler shop and they told me that the cheap metal that gm uses in the clamps stretches and conforms over time to the ball. Now when you remove it and put a new joint there it doesn't seal the same. They also recommended putting some red rtv on the ball before putting the exhaust on. So $30 to gm for the clamp and a few dollars in rtv and no more leaks and it's still removable.

What is red rtv?

I just took my truck to Lous Custom Exhaust he said he has no way to fix this thing lol. I'm like you gotta be kidding me. How is this design such an issue? I'm running out of hope. I've taken it to 2 exhaust places already and had then "fix" it, 3-4 weeks goes by, and on cold start it sound horrendous. You can hear the leak so bad.

What v clamp will work? Any help would be great.

I think I'm going to give this a try. I went and looked they had 2 different ones. One was more of a "cement" when dried, I'm assuming like a jb weld. The other was white, maybe more of a silicone type? Not really sure. What did you use?

When I put my metal mulisha exhaust on I used a Napa exhaust sealant. It worked good.

I bought a new clamp already and it still

Leaks bad. I'm going to have to try to use some sealer. Mine leaks pretty bad I hope it works. When you start it the truck sounds almost embarrassing. Keep in mind, this is after I've taken it to multiple exhaust shops and mechanics. I'm pretty handy with stuff like this so I thought maybe I'm just not good at it. Well then These guys arent either ha. This is my luck.
