Rear Axle U-bolt Torque

Recommended Posts

Can I use a regular ratchet? I don't have an air wrench.. if so, Tighten them 1 turn?

You need a torque wrench, there's no other way to know how tight to turn the nuts without a torque wrench. For all you know they may already be at the proper torque/tightness; doubt it though, mine were way loose on a 2017 model, so this issue still persists.

You can buy a torque wrench from harbor freight for about $15. Yes you get what you pay for; it's certainly not going to be dead nuts accurate but it's better than nothing. Or better yet barrow a quality one from someone.

2019 Chevy 2500HD diesel. Found mine at 90 ft-lbs when I checked them before taking them off. The class on the nut is 10. Tightened in pattern to 59 ft/lbs. Eventually tightened to 90 ft/lbs which was very close to the 130 degrees which some suggested. Actual rotation was more like 120 degrees.
