Audio system bug?

Recommended Posts

On my 03 2500HD (LT trim, Bose radio, XM-radio) the audio system has gone stone-silent a couple of times.  No radio audio, no chimes, no On-Star audio.

In both cases the audio came back fine the next time I started the truck.  Anyone heard of this?  TSB?

My '01 Tahoe has done the same thing but under different circumstances.  I have the BOSE system in my Tahoe that includes the 8 speakers plus subwoofer.  Anyway, I was trying to replace the stock deck with an aftermarket Pioneer deck.  Apparently my aftermarket deck was pumping too much power through the stock amplifier and would shut down the whole system.  After about two weeks of talking with Crutchfield technical support that was the consensus of the problem.  We tried all sorts of solutions but nothing worked.  Whenever I turned up the volume it would go silent.  The only thing that fixed it was turning off the truck, waiting about 10 seconds, then restarting it.

For the time being I have given up on the aftermarket deck until I get some cash for an amplifier and a new sub.  Then I will do it the right way and forget the factory amplifier all together.

BlackSilver,

I do not know if this is the answer, but there is a TSB about intermittent audio. Here is the number:

02-08-44-020B; replaces 02-08-44-020A; No Audio Out of Speakers at Times (Reprogram Radio and/or Replace Amplifier); 2003 Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC Pickups and Utilities, Hummer H2

You might check with your dealer.

Good luck,

Tom

This bulletin is being revised to clarify the models and the approved repair procedure. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 02-08-44-020A (Section 08 -- Body and Accessories).

Condition

Some customers may comment that at times there is no audio out of any speakers. However, on the next key cycle the audio system may perform properly.

Cause

An anomaly within the amplifier/radio operating systems may cause this condition.

Correction

Important

Pay particular attention to this correction procedure, it is somewhat complicated. The repair varies based on the vehicle sound system. Refer to the Service Parts Identification (SPID) Label of the vehicle being repaired. The type of sound system in the vehicle will determine the repair procedure.

Determine the regular production option (RPO) code of the sound system in the vehicle from the SPID label.

Install the Tech 2® to the vehicle DLC and determine the part number of the radio software and the amplifier part number.

Refer to the tables below to determine the correct repair(s).

as far as add-on stereo equipment, radioshack sells a plug in part that goes behind the stereo. i cant remember the part name, but in plugs into the input/output in back of the stereo and then the wires to the amp plug into the back of it. it will keep the stereo from shutting off. im trying to find my reciept now for the part.
