Crossmembers

Recommended Posts

As you know I have a HD pick'em up.  Today I was under her and I notice that all my cross members are beat to death. I don't mean a little dent here and there I mean that my crossmember looked like I heated them up with a torch and bent them up and down 2-3 inches.  even the cross member holding up my tranny.  Check yours out and see if your cross-members are bending around.  I'm probably going to cut the rivets out and weld my own custom, evil laugh, crossmember is that I know will not bend.  CMNT, Shaners, 1BADHD check your trucks out and see if your cross members are all ship shape.

I like my mangled crossmembers come from a combo of abusive off-road conditions, and our lifts at the shop.  People just kick the lifts arms under the truck and if they hit metal then it must be good. So I think at one time the crossmembers have been forced to bear the entire weight of the vehicle plus toolbox, diesel fuel, etc.. I think this is the biggest reason for the damage I described earlier.

Was the damage there when the truck was new. I had some damage to my frame that occured when the truck was being delivered to the dealer. They fixed it like new I was just wondering if you crawled under the truck when it was new and checked out all the frame parts. I know I will when I buy my next one.

Love my 2500 HD.

To be honest I didn't look under the truck when I first got it I took it home. Washed it to check for scratches then the next day she went to work for the company.  Good advice though. You're cab mount support was bent if I'm not mistaken correct?

Yep it was the cab mount bracket. It never would have been a problem if I hadn't wanted to put the Bully Nerf bars on it. The dealer sent it to the body shop and put it on the frame rack to repair it. Looks like brand new now. The bummer was the day I got it back I climbed into the cab and the new truck smell had been replaced with body shop smell. That went away in a couple days but I sure missed that new truck smell.

Yep always sucks when you lose that $40,000.00 plus new truck smell.
