How to properly wash after salted roads

Recommended Posts

As the tittle says...

I drove for about 400ish miles on salted roads and washed the truck already twice since i got back home to Texas. Being that i have never lived where it snows i never learned how to take care of a truck properly after driving salted roads....or whatever it is they put down. Do i just powerwash underneath the best i can or what?

I still feel that my truck is dirty and is going to rust and will be a pile of rust by morning.

Any pointers are greatly appreciated!!

No i didnt coat the truck with anything before hand either. Yah yah i know.... Lol

Up here in the Great White North, I usually choose the 'underbody' spray at the local car wash. Failing that, a nice long drive while it's pouring rain probably helps too. ;)

If you are picky about your trucks paint finish, find a decent touchless car wash that has the under body spray. This is all I use in the winter months. If you aren't picky any car wash will do just fine.

I live in Indiana, and during the winter months i go to the local coin op at least once a week if not more to spray down. Just pressure wash it really well. Make sure to hit the wheel wells, and all the nooks and crannies to blast out any grime that is sitting in there. Afterwards hand wash as usual. You'll be good to go.

Salt sucks !!! It creates a White coating that makes a vehicle look as bad as all the White snow you have to drive through. Being from a state that spends every spare dollar it has on Salt (that's actually a bad joke, there is no spare money in Michigan) washing it off only really happens with the late March rains. Having said that I really don't think salt is as detrimental as it used to be. Today's vehicle coatings are much better then they used to be. A 3 year old vehicle looks as good as it did when it came off the show room floor.

My suggestion would be, wash as you would if it got dirty any other way. Put a coat of BFWD on it and your good to go. (Black Fire Wet Diamond)

i live in western pa. I "wash" my truck the same way all year. I use a commercial grade pressure washer with heat at our truck garage, then go to a touch less car wash. Gets the job done. I don't do hand washing, just not my thing. Prob helps my truck is silver. In the winter I strictly pressure wash with heat and that's it. Hot water makes all the difference.

thanks guys for all the responses.

Like I said I have never had to and never thought I would. I will try and look for a underbody wash station and them probably take it to a detail shop. We have one here in town that always has Ferraris and porches parked outside,

Imma walk in like " who wanna wash mi pinche chevy!!!"

haha
