Nope, just stayed away for awhile and decided to come back. Wasn't in the right state of mind when I stopped coming on here and had some things going on to keep me off of here.

At 80,000 the rings were replaced. Now we are at 98,000 and the cam and lifters are shot. I know it is a small percentage of the total Silverados with problems but there is a clear trend of engine issues with the 5.3 Vortec with AFM.

I drive 14 highway miles each way to work. This truck has never towed a thing and usually just has groceries in it.

I have a 2010 Silverado with the 5.3 Vortec AFM. At 80,000, I noticed extreme smoke at start-up (probably high oil usage too) I took it to the dealership and they confirmed the piston rings were bad. The dealer replaced the rings and everything was great. Here we are, a mere 18,000 miles later and the lifters are ticking. Back to the dealer I went, asking for analysis and hoping for a simple solution. When service tech called he had a sad empathetic voice and said he had some bad news. My truck needs a teardown and inspection of the cam and lifters and he quoted me $4,400. As you might imagine, I said; "thank you very much, I will pick my truck up this afternoon." After spending a few hours on the internet I was able to quickly identify that my engine problems are almost identical to what many pre-2013 5.3 Vortec owners have experienced. I decided the next best step was to contact the service manager and ask the dealer to support me with a request to GM to authorize repair work. After all, they printed right on the invoice "Completely Satisfied" is our goal. I left the service manager a message on Monday the 7th asking him to review my vehicle history and call me back to discuss repairs. I waited all week for a return call and nothing. Friday morning, I called the service manager again and figured for sure I would hear back during that day. As of this post, I haven't received a return call from the Al Serra dealership in Colorado Springs. I will give updates in a few days.

I don't tend to drive too much, around average it seems. But, I do get times where I hardly go out of town and then other times where I'm traveling out of town a lot. My 98 when I got rid of it for this truck only had around 145,000 miles on it and 20,000 less on the engine. I had that truck for 10 years and ragged it so bad that I replaced the rear axle twice, had the trans rebuilt once and had the engine replaced once and that engine seized up which is when I decided to get something new, not particularly brand new though. I actually "sold" it to the shop I normally used if something was over my head when it came to fixing it. I traded them the truck as is with the bad engine and they gave for my N-fab steps and UWS toolbox with install. It was fair since it had other problems lol.

Here's where I'm at as of today.

85,827 in case my Photobucket account goes down. Seems I can't upload directly anymore. Oh well.
