Door locks don't respond to key fob

Recommended Posts

I've got a '99 Silverado 5.3 with around 190,000 on it and the door locks quit responding to the key fob. There was no gradual decay, just one day it worked and one it didn't. I can trip the alarm with the fob but the locks won't lock/unlock. I checked the fob battery, all fuses and the relays and everything checks out good. Any ideas would be appreciated, thanks.

Did you check the remote at one of those testing machines at AZ or Advance? Chances are it's the actual remote circuitry failed. If the panic button still works that tells you the truck is getting the signal, the remote is just not sending it. Same thing happened to me. Remote worked great then suddenly it stopped but the panic button still worked.

I checked the battery at AZ on one of those displays. Is there a way that I can check the remote? I just hate to go to the dealership and buy a new remote and find out that isn't the problem.

It's probably the contact points in the remote. Take remote apart and clean the areas the buttons make contact with the board with a cotton swap and rubbing alcohol.

No the tester I'm talking about at AZ does test the actual remote. You push the little button to turn it on then press your remote button and the light comes on to tell you the remote is sending a signal. I have a new remote coming in a couple days and I'll be able to tell you if that was my problem as well. Because I had the same symptoms you are experiencing. The dealer tested my remote and it was not working. I took it apart and saw one of the soldered connections was broke off.
