FIPK vs. UPD

Recommended Posts

Newbie to the forum and lovin it already.  I have an 03 Silverado 4.8L.  Have Flowmaster dual rear exit.  Looking for intake to compliment it.  Been a fan of K&N for years and like the FIPK and also like the design of upd. Which would you choose & why?

decisions, decisions, decisions! ???  ???  ???

pmaggan - I did consider the Volant but like you say, wouldn't buy it w/o the scoop.  On the 03 Silverado's where there used to be an open hole on the front air dam there are now tow hooks set back in the holes and I think this is where the scoop goes.  Without the scoop it would be a close replica of the factory air box - just my .02

Something else I considered was maybe having to install some sort of screen on the scoop at the air dam to keep large bugs and debris from getting in and damaging the filter element.  We have the biggest skeeters in the world down here in LA you know.

By the way, did you notice that much difference with the new Granatelli MAF.  I heard that to make that much of a difference you need to install a bigger (80 mm) throttle body too.

Thanks for the advice!

Would'nt install either, I have seen testing where if you use a "open air" intake system without a air box it causes loss of low end torque, which you can never have enough of with a full size truck with a 4.8 or 5.3

I can't really say anything about the Granatelli since it went in at the same time as the Volant Air box and scoop.  It was on sale, so I bought it.  Maybe I'll get a larger throttle body soon and see there are any improvements.

You know what they say about opinions but....

I ordered the UPD intake and was'nt impressed with the

fit or quality, to me $300 for 2 pieces of plastic you could

break with your bare hands and fit half as good as the factory was'nt worth the cash so I sent it back.

If you really want to spend your money on something that will actaully raise you performance and is worth your hard earned cash, spend it on the Diablo Sport Programmer, it is the only thing I have tryed that made a major improvement in performance, shift quality and shift points, plus the best part is you can adjust every part of the program yourself and is beyond easy to do.

Whatever you do, dont waste your money on a Hypertech Programmer if you want performance, that thing is a joke :)

Blue Ghost - again thanks! :thumb:  :thumb:

Still undecided on the intake but had future plans of the HPPIII.  Now after hearing all the good comments in the forum about the Diablo Predator when I have $400 burnin a hole I'll get one.   :nono: aah dreams!

One day soon I'll decide on the intake. :)

let me just say this. UPD screwed us out of 2 months of supporting dealership fees.

As far as i'm concered they have no reputation and no-one should buy anything from them.  :chevy:

They don't even return out emails or phone calls.

Mervz-

Sorry, I didn't know that till after I purchased it. :chevy: If I am not completely satisfied it will be sent back. Will try to send some business to the supporting sponsors when I get some more spare $$$$$.

Sucks to hear someone screwing you guys because you have an awesome site and the recent upgrades are great.
