4.3 Engine Oil Lines Bursting

Recommended Posts

I have a 2000 S-10 Blazer with 4.3 engine. Yesterday I changed oil and the oil lines running from the oil filter were damp with oil. It seems to be leaking where the aluminum fitting meets the hose. I was told by a mechanic today to get them changed ASAP because he has seen a couple burst going down the road and toasting the motor. How many 4.3 owners have had theirs leak?

I've taken mine back to my dealer THREE times because of this leak since 11,000 kms (not sure what that translates into for miles).  This coming Tuesday, I'm actually bringing it to another dealer to get this problem fixed.  I'm just hoping it'll be fixed for good by the time my warranty expires (in 3 months).

I had a 94 Sonoma with the 4.3 Vortec. One of my lines started leaking when I installed a 3" body lift. I bought the new lines, changed them myself. The one I bought was about $45, never leaked in an additional 90,000 miles of driving.

I had one of the oil line fittings burst on my 95' Tahoe. Luckily a guy saw my truck was dumping the oil out underneath it while I was at a stoplight and said something.

My problem wasn't with the lines themselves, but with that powdered metal quick connect fitting that screwed into the oil filter housing. It cracked in half on me.

Good luck :smash:

Normally if the problem is logged with the dealer and the repairs are ongoing the warranty coverage (on that part) should continue past the end date of the warranty until the problem is fixed.

At least this has been my experience a few times I have had to do it.

I roll into the dealer at 59,000 kms and start noting the ongoing issues.

Had rear diff bearings covered, powersteering box and radiator covered this way.

After the fact I though I had a bit of a scam going. Let things (that aren't catastrophic) go un repaired up to near the end of warranty. Get them repaired then you have and additional 1 year 12, 000 km warranty on those parts. Not fool proof but every little extra helps.

By the way I do maintain vehicles as per (or better) than the manfacture recommendation, caus eI still want a good truck after the warranty is over.
