unrealistic to expect redesign for 2018 Silverado?

Recommended Posts

I'm sure that was the attitude back when Fred Flinstone was using his feet or when their were 4 speeds and then 6speeds to 8 speeds.

Though I think the 10speed will be nice

Not if GM doesn't figure out how to program the damn shift point logic...for the moment, 10-speed just looks like two more opportinities to thump/jerk than my 8-speed provides.

It is true GM seems to be unable to program a trans to save its life. GM basically reverse engineered the ZF 8 speed, the goal is to find it's flaws and make it better but GM also can't build a trans to save their life. The only saving grace is that the 10 speed was once again codeveloped with Ford like our old 6 speeds were. My buddy loves the 10 speed in his raptor, but I bet once GM puts their programming on it, it will most likely suck.

Expect a "heavy duty" CVT to meet EPA mpg requirements.

I've heard chatter that the Trump'ster may rescind Obama's last Executive Order upping mpg. Might even do away with CAFE standards altogether. Stay tuned...

I expect same engines 4.3/5.3/6.2 with possible edition of diesel for 1/2 ton. Expect 8spd transmissions across the board for all models and reduction of overall weight through use of aluminum. Remember, General Motors often gets criticized because they are more about evolution than revolution. Meaning they just improve the weaknesses of a previous generation or model rather than create something entirely new (i.e. 07' Silv & 14' Silv).

This is what I've always liked about GM's build philosophy. If it ain't broke, don't fix It. It's better to have an old design that is refined and reliable than a new design that is untested.

Ford loves to do this stuff. Introduce a radical new product that is 60% tested then sell the product and let the buyer do the rest, then make up for the problems under warranty and improve the next generation truck. A smart Ford buyer always waits for the third model year of a model generation. That's when they've worked all the kinks out.

Read an article in Truck Trend recently about spotting a 2019 Mule, even had some pics. Anyway per their article, 2019 will be the model year of the big changes; new frame, more aluminum sheet metal, Ford/GM 10 speed tranny (although may see this in 2018 high-end models) and new engines such as a turbo V-6 and maybe a version of the upcoming Corvette DOHC blown 6.2 (now that would put a sock in the mouth of the Ecoboost Ferd lovers heh, heh!). Anyway, interesting times ahead in the truck world for sure...

Ram is bringing out the Rebel which is an answer to the ford raptor. Rumors say their cramming the hellcat motor into it, in addition to the standard hemi and possibly a 6.4L. That will put pressure on GM to create something of this nature, if gas prices stay low of course

The Camaro ZL1 customers and the reviews praise the 10 over the 8.

Everything I've read says '18 is the year. The '14s were out in mid '13. 5 year cycle on this design means mid-late '17 for intro of the new '18 model.

They said 2015 for the ZR2 and we still have not seen it on the street yet! If you actually start believing what GM is saying then .........well I don't believe anything they say! Ford is already showing us their 2018. GM has a dead link somewhere!

The ZR2 is a bad example (although GM is really bad about changing its mind). It's not a bread-and-butter vehicle for GM like the 1500 series trucks. See here:

Pics from three weeks ago. That's a '19 model, it'll be on the streets mid-'18.

The oval exhaust tips alone are enough to get me to trade up! And I guarantee it will have rear A/C vents...

An interesting article below; "Ford dominates March sales..." Causes me to wonder if such poor sales performance may cause GM to pull forward the 2019 model release to early 2018?

Really? :rollin: Wow, might be the most petty reason I have heard for anyone to get a vehicle.

Anyways that exhaust placement is the worst idea for trucks to have, susceptible to damage if you leave the pavement (or many other instances), looks out of place and in ten years will look like crap if it is used remotely at all as a truck.

Snoringbore they aren't going to push up an entire ruck and rush it for 1 month of lower sales. They current truck have been selling fine and combined out sold Ford many times. they need to take their time so a good product is brought to the table just like the last gen.

People who spend time on forum boards have $$$$ to spend and are not your typical chevy consumers, example, i traded my 2014 silverado for a 2016 because of the hood/grill/headlights and foglights.

We gets what we wants dammit.
