Gear ratio

Recommended Posts

Myself included. I really don't haul much at all. I was only interested in 3.73 because I want to run 33 tires, but it sounds like my 3.42 are sufficient. Right?

Yes. My girls truck has 3.42s and she is running 275/60/20 BFG Ko2s and she inlybsaw a 1 or 2 mpg difference and didnt notice much loss in umphh from the truck.

She has a 2014 5.3 crew cab tx edition silverado 2WD with a pro comp level 2"

I agree, you should be able to tow it just fine. I've always had V8 trucks with low gear ratios because I like the get up and go. I really have no reason to own a full size 4wd truck with a V8 except for the fact that it is what I want. I have a buddy who has a small SUV with a trailer hitch and hauls the same things I do (motorcycles, ATV, fire wood, building supplies) in his trailer but his vehicle cost half of what mine did and gets nearly 70% better gas mileage. Financially he made a much better decision but at the same time he wishes he had a full size 4wd just for the same reason, he wants one.

I have the 3.42's. Stock 18's and stock SRA GY's. I'm running about 1,950rpm @ 79mph or there about. Very low RPM on the highway IMO. There are days I wish I had 3.73's.... I had a '14 2wd truck that was a company issued truck. Same setup as mine but 2wd and 3.08. So I can comment on both. The 3.08 was a PITA to drive in the city traffic. That's where I noticed it the most. Trying to keep up with today's cracker jack box cars and idiot drivers in city driving. Corollas must come with a light switch for a gas pedal.
