Truck didn't start this morning

Recommended Posts

So woke up this morning and notice it was snowing. Went to remote start the truck and it half way starts and stops. I used the key and I hear it clicking but not starting. I am pretty sure the battery is dead.

I only use the truck on the weekends and it has been light use as of late. Very little driving. I had a dash cam but it's configured so if the battery goes under 12v to stop. I've had it on for the better part of last year.

I think it's just the battery. What do you guys think. Did it just drain or an issue with the battery.

You didn't mention year, but there have been a few issues with batteries failing less than 2 years old.

Oh sorry. 2014 model.

Remove the battery and go have it load tested/analyzed

I think I will. Next week I have to go to the dealership for my last free oil change. I will have them take a look at it.

Leaving my old Range AFM Disable unit plugged in and letting the truck sit for 3 days was enough to pull the battery down and do exactly what yours did. With light use and more current draw while sitting, I could see it happening. Especially with cold weather and the fact that these trucks have such a big electrical load - electric power steering, extended engine cranking, bigger/more powerful computers, touch screen stereos, Onstar, etc.

Idk what you guys are doing but mine cranks right up.... I only drive it once or twice every 4 or 5 days and it never hesitates to start.

I dint have any extra load on the electrical side but ita never failed to crank right up.....

My 2015 2500HD gas on the other hand..... Sometimes it will chug to start and i use that one everyday..... It never turns off from 6am until 7:30pm....on all day.

Mine died on me in the first week home from the dealer when the truck was new.... I toss Delco batteries nowdays about as far as I can throw them.... this is easily the 10th or more one j have a had fail in short service. I swapped it for an Odyssey and can leave whatever plugged in the power ports and it starts fine every time. I have no use for the oem batteries anymore in gm stuff.

My battery died after 2 ½ years and 13,000 miles. Jumped it, and after testing dealer replaced it under warranty. Said CCA was very low. I also had a Range device drain mine after 4 days last year, but it recovered after tender. These batteries don't take much to run them down.

There is a significant electrical load for these trucks even when ignition is turned off. I know for a fact that during a BCM update, the battery must be connected to a charger or it would go low enough to keep the updating process from finishing or the truck wouldn't start at the end.

And with a decent battery attached the load is still insignificant enough it doesn't matter as those modules power down with the truck off. It's a battery problem with Delco... not the trucks. Their batteries have been junk for a while.... my 05 is a great example. Kill a Delco sitting for 2 weeks... must be the truck... never get more than a year from the Delco... must be the truck. I warrantied ar least 3 Delco replacement batteries on that truck alone....I left it sit for over 6 weeks with the Odyssey in it and it fires up like you started it yesterday and surpassed the magic year of Delco demise... It's not the truck lol. My 2015 I abuse for 8 days of sitting outside in winter at work... I fire it up and it runs for 30 seconds to move it and off again... so the battery never gets charged. Doesn't go dead either. ... but no Delco in it anymore. Getting a year or 2 from the oem battery in the mild climates most of you live in is pretty sad.

A battery that has been run down to 'zero', even if it will accept a recharge, will never have as long a life or as strong a starting ability as one that has not been run down.

I haven't had to replace a delco battery in many many years. Lots of them were 5 to 7 years old when the vehicle was replaced/sold.

True... but going dead during what should be considered it's infancy for no apparent reason as the replacement for it has no issues under the same conditions is not rocket science. The mortality rate of these Delcos is enough any oem should stop using them....
