Chassis Lube Points for 2015 Sierra / Silverado?

Recommended Posts

Was crawling around under the truck the other day and didn't see any chassis lube points. Did GM do away with zerk fittings on control arms, ball joints, tie rods, etc?

2007-Current 1500 trucks, outer tie rod ends and that's it. All other front joints are lifetime sealed.

2500hd and 3500hd still have fittings on all but two linkages.

To the best of my knowledge, the 1500 trucks are the only 1/2 ton on the market with any fittings, and the HDs are the only full greaseable HD on the market.

It's as good idea to self grease..... I bought my truck and let the dealer do one of the included oil changes in which they just made a mess under the truck. Well neither the original dealer that PDI'd the truck nor the oil change monkeys greased the tie rods. Tool 15 shots to even get the rubber boot to swell..... they were bone dry inside.

There is nothing on the PDI check list for greasing steering components as they are pre-lubed before they even hit the truck.

Obviously they aren't...... otherwise they wouldn't be that dry. Sure they are "prelubed" with the minimal amount of lubricant they use when they assemble the parts. Even if they don't do it at PDI because they don't have too they could at least do it when you get the oil changed..... I know...... grease guns are hard to understand how to use.

or maybe you have over-filled your boots. I have never greased them until they swell, all it does is as soon as you drive and make a turn it puts pressure on the boot and squeezes out the excess grease. If you are using a good quality synthetic ball joint grease you only need maybe 5 pumps to keep it lubed. Any excess grease pushes past the ball joint and goes on top of it in the boot area. That isn't the wear area of a ball joint so it is doing no good up there.
