2015 HD3500 test drive

Recommended Posts

I recently test drove a new 2015 crew cab 4X4 HD3500 single rear wheel Silverado, 6.0 liter gas engine, 6 speed automatic. It had Good Year Wrangler 18" tires on it. The truck seemed to have flat spotted tires because the ride was somewhat bouncy. The steering wheel was not aligned properly, was tilted some 15 degrees while going straight. I wonder if that ride was actually due to flat spots on tires, or the dreaded vibration problems that GM does not know how to fix? Maybe these Wranglers are just cheap tires prone to flat spotting? I actually liked the truck otherwise, but given other problems GM has now with these trucks (like transmission issues) I am very nervous to do anything right now. What kind of mileage can one expect out of this thing? Crew cab, regular bed, 4X4, 4.10 rear end.

Another thing to remember is that the only difference(to my knowledge anyway) is that the 3500 has an extra set of overload leafs on it, but everything else is the same. Brakes/tranny/ rear end.

All 3500hd get the 11.5" rear axle, gas or diesel. On 2500hd, gas get the 10.5" and diesel get the 11.5".

This!

Only way to get a 11.5 AAM big rear axle is by getting the 3500 on the gas truck, this also gets you the over load spring.

Unless you want a piece of junk stay away, far away. My 2015 crew cab HD2500 is the worst truck I have ever owned. Expect tons of electrical problems including ones that shut your truck down, expect noisy 4wd operation in hi4, expect things like heated seats to fail, switches to fail, in general they look nice, initially ride nice (which goes away I might add) but when they go in for service GM will tell you your truck is operating as designed. So they have designed a poorly made truck. I have 34,000 miles on mine so I should know. And to top it off they do not care about your satisfaction one bit.

That aside I get around 14 typically day to day, sometimes 13 sometimes 15, Towing my 10,000 trailer i get around 9-10.
