Taylor Plug Wires With Kook's Headers

Recommended Posts

Well, we installed the Kook's headers & cross-pipe this morning! The truck sounds healthy without being overly loud. I ordered the wires yesterday after several of you responded, thanks. I will let everyone know on the fit and take some pictures then.

I ordered:

#79613 - 9" Wires, 135 degree plug boots

Thanks again everyone!

How difficult was the install? Did you do it yourself? What kind of lift did you use? I am asking because if I bought these I would want to do the install myself and would like to know what environment you installed them.

Thanks.

I had my local mechanic do most of the work as I just had stomach surgery a few weeks ago. He did use the lift for the install. You need to remove the transmission cross member to remove the stock head pipe. You can then reinstall it before installing the headers and new cross pipe. The removal process was fairly straightforward, A lot of time was spent over the fenders, tightening bolts and reinstalling wires and plugs. A second set of hands will be helpful. These guys had it done in about 3 hours.

Local performance shop quoted me $150 for installation....

I will be going that route.

any of the wires "too close for comfort" ??

If they're anything like my 06 there won't be an issue with the headers melting the wires. I've ran headers on my 05 and this 06 with no protection, and have never had one melt.

They are rated to 600 degrees but i would rather not have to find out the hard way that they melt. I saw a member on here have little boots like a shield for his. Maybe just a precaution?

Nope. That was my concern as well. That is the reason I went with the 135 degree boots vs the 180 degree boots. The extra angle vs straight allows the wires to tuck in more.

Check the price on those fire sleeves...... I thought about that as well, the sleeves are ugly and are not needed. On the factory set-up, the boots are straight and you are using cast iron manifolds that are shaped differently.

You could always add them. Better safe than sorry, but I think you'll be fine without them.

I just sent my tune files to Black Bear last night. Let me get back a tune file and I'll try to get some sound clips. It sounds fat and lazy down low, but runs like a scalded dog once it clears out a little.

The sound is louder than I thought it would be. I had the GM Borla cat back and the sound was not enough. After the headers it's now a little much for me. But most guys who like sound will love it. I'm probably going to try to install another SS muffler in line some where to try and tame the bark a little. The power is insane for just a header swap.
