burnouts w/ 6.0L

Recommended Posts

This may seem like a stupid question, but how do you do a good burnout with a 6.0L 3/4 truck? With 360 lb/ft of torque and a 4.10 axle out back, it ought to be simple. I chirp them off the line, and power braking to 2300 rpm spins them a little, but how do you form that super-cool, wasteful cloud from a standstill? Why the #### would I want to do this you ask? Well, I'm tired of the  :jester: I get from my buddy and his modded 5.9L ram who wastes rubber more than a Firestone recall collector. One good one will show him bone stock Chevys kick a$$ better than tweaked dodges ever will.  :smash:  :bs:  :hail:

Cap off the line to the rear brakes. :bs:

Then you can make your friend vanish in a puff of smoke. :smash:

Kidding. I don't know how you would do it. With the brake proportioning system being active anyway. The older trucks (with the drums in back) would "power brake" quite easily. But now, these things are actually designed with the rear brakes having a purpose...I know... :jester: ?

I would guess that you would have to figure out a way to disable the rear brakes...Either manually, or in the computer...I don't know how to do either on the newer trucks.

go to a drag strip.  burning rubber isn't a sign of a fast vehicle.  I've seen front wheel drive VW's burn rubber (with Nos) the entire length of the strip.  There are stock Bentley's that run over 600 ft lbs stock.. but they're heavy as all ####.

How in the "you know what" :smash: did the guy with the VW keep cotrol!??

I know that I can't power brake my dads 00' Z71 unless I am on the sand, and then it will just stop spinning them... it sucks sometimes, but I have seen people with the new chevies (discs out back) doing monster burnouts both in the sand and on pavement.... I dunno, but good luck...

I don't think this solves you problem, but what wingnut said is correct, and in addition to that there is the dreaded torque management to contend with.

W/ my '03 5.3L and 4.10 rear, I actually get more rubber by pushing about 1/2 to 2/3 throttle, rather than all the way down - I think the engine management system senses when it wants to protect the driveline components and retards things.  I haven't tried power braking it, and probably won't.

I'd do what cyrylyn said if this friend is razzing ya - explain why your system won't let you fry things.  If he still isn't buying, then promptly blow his friggin doors off in the 1/4 mile!!!! :jester:

God, that sounds like fun!  Good luck.

Oops - just noticed you said "modded" Ram - well I'm sure you can give him a good run for his money!  :smash:

I think the problem is the torque managment system.

I also have a friend that used to have a 98' dodge ram with a 360 and 3.92 gears, and that thing could anniliate the tires.  It was actually pretty amazing.  You could powerbrake it to 50mph without moving!

If you want to help the tires start spinning, bleach won't help that.  Bleach makes the white smoke though.  If you take dishwashing soap on a sponge, and rub it on your tires, that will make them slick and easy to spin.  Put a little dishwashing soap infront of the tires on the ground as well.  You'll roast the tires assuming the torque management doesn't figure out what your doing and kill your fun.

Happy fenderwell cleaning  :smash:

Thanks for the replies, guys  :thumb: Smokin' the tires isn't that important to me, so I won't run to the store for bleach or soap. Just wanted to do it for fun. As far as the dragstrip is concerned, my 3/4 ton ex. cab long bed might have a little trouble against his 1/2 ton single cab short bed  :) But, the argument can be settled one of 2 ways: bumper pull against my truck ( :( ) or at the strip against my dad's 01 C5 ( :banghead: ) Long live Chevy power!  :hail:  :chevy:

I've got a 99 Silverado Xcab and can smokem up no problem.  Easiest is to do it on concrete.  If not, Left foot on brake, mash the gas.  Let off the brake just alittle to get the tires spinning.  You gotta sit there for a while to get the wheel speed up.  Once she's cookin, she'll smoke!!  Let off the brake and you should be able to lay 2 perfect snake tracks  20-50 feet long!! :)

The only time i can do burnout with my truck is when i cross a wood bridge.

I park the front tire on the asphalt and i let the rear on the wood. And i see a beautiful cloud of with smoke go up in the air.

On the asphalt it was impossible due to the brake and the torque management

Good luck

Hold the brake to the floor. hold the gas 3/4 to the floor. Get tires spinning, let off the brake a little bit so the tires spin faster. Pin the gas, let off the brake and let the big smokie eat!!! This was before my lift. I didnt need the tires anymore. My personal best. 185' of 6.0 Chevy muscle vs. Firestones. :D:thumbs::D
