Detailing Question

Recommended Posts

Hello Gentleman and Ladies!

I have a detailing question for you all. Im sure I could have asked this in a detailing forum but I've gotten pretty reliable results here. I have a new 2015 Silverado and I love it. It gets a bath every 1-2 weeks and I usually throw about 2-4 coats of Turtle Wax or Meguires on it. Ive heard that you can put something a little more strong on it called carnauba wax? Does anyone suggest putting a thicker sealant on the trucks paint? I want the truck to look like glass and just be able to do some light maintenance on it during the week with possibly a duster. What do you all think?

Thank you

PS heres the truck :)

Most waxes contain some already

I wash, clay, polish, wash, seal, wax, in that order.

Check out adams polishes for how to videos, and auto geek dot net for products and videos.

I typed out a huge reply and it got deleted when i realized i wasn't logged in.....

I second what Half_ton says. Check out adamspolishes.com They have awesome videos that help you step by step. You can also email them a specific question, and you'll get an answer.

My only advice is to stay away from the duster. Think about it, you're going to wipe the debris across your paint with a duster....huge potential for scratches. Again, Adam's has some great options for your weekly maintenance.

Half_Ton, typically I suggest waxing your vehicle after you seal it. Sealants bond to the bare paint. When there is wax on the paint, the sealant can't completely bond correctly. When you wax after sealant, you are adding two quality layers of protection. Waxing before sealant runs the chance of the sealant not bond completely, ultimately leaving you with just wax.

Thanks for catching that, I can assure you I wax AFTER i seal. I typed out a long reply on my prep hour (SS teacher) and hit reply and I wasn't logged in and it was deleted. I hastily re-typed the reply and made that error. Thanks for correcting that, don't want incorrect info floating around, as there is plenty already!

Big fan of Adams polishes. Go to there site and watch the videos. They have a great sealant (Liguid Paint Sealant) that goes on easy and it will protect you to were you don't even have to wax if you don't get to it. Then use H2O Guard and Gloss every four washes as you dry. But I would still wax with at least their "Buttery Wax" Goes on easy and wipes off easy even in direct sun.

Perfect thank you so much guys. Has anyone noticed that after a good cleaning and waxing the paint actually has this octagonal shape to it or is it just me? I want it to look just like glass :)

The glass looking surface is due to the prep, the sealant/wax protect that surface. Take your time.

This is my car, I did the following last spring over a week.

Clayed, polished, sealed, waxed. Car looks better now at almost 4 years than it did brand new

It may be factory orange peel.

After more research I think this is exactly what it is. Its extremely slight so I don't think Im going to do anything about it but its just a bummer that it would even be a problem you know? I wish there was a way to fix this rather than stripping the wax off then wet sanding the whole truck!

Heres my truck after wash/clay and then some Adams h20 quard and gloss topped with buttery wax.c1d8be0e49e88008cabb2026cd1a8be4.jpg54aa537fb034cd40067b76fb7df3856d.jpg

Not bad for having 75,000 miles

How much does all that end up costing you?
