This could be serious!

First of all, Happy New Year to everyone.

New Years Eve day, I took off work and took my wife's car down to get the oil changed and tires rotated.

While rotating the tires the technician found the rim was bent and the tire ready to blow. (see picture)

What had happened is she was driving home from work one day several months ago, and ran over something and I checked the car out and never found this because I did not crawl under the car or do what should have been a thorough inspection of the car. We did keep an eye on where the car was parked each day to check for any type of leaks indicating any further damage.

This was on the inside of the right rear tire.

This could have been very serious if the tire had blown out on us.

Please be sure that when you check your vehicle for damage if you hit something, that you check the inside of the rim and tires also. Remember a lot of rims now are aluminum and even though they are strong, they can be damaged very easily.

We found a used rim and will get a new tire installed on it.

Since the bulge in the tire is not lined up with rim damage did the tire slip on the rim or not. If so did it happen instant or as driving afterward? Seems like tires are slipping on their rims maybe a little over time causing tires to be unbalanced causing vibs in newer trucks.

What kind of car? Brother had that happen when he hit a pothole in his malibu a few yrs ago. Had to buy a new rim

This is on my wife's 2004 Pontiac Vibe. We were lucky and found a used rim in great shape for $75.00.

Someone mentioned checking the suspension as well, I think that is a good idea since it may have bottomed out when hitting whatever it was.

I think when the item that hit the tire, pushed it so hard it compressed the tire and suspension to the max and then the rest of the force when into bending the rim, and the tire split due to the force of the excessive pressure on the tire.
