Cars are not the same...or am I getting old!

I disagree with so much of this. Kids come around to the classics... it just takes time. And if I spent 100K on a car and it did anything you wrote, I'd burn down the garage of whoever built it. Even my own.

I have a 75 c10 with a 454 that's pushing 550hp... And I'm only 10k into it.

You have 550HP on an old inefficient platform that very few people want.

You spent $10,000 on a 40 year old vehicle. Very few people care about an old C10. In the end, it is still noisy, uncomfortable, rides like crap, handles like crap, has virtually no features....why? Why not invest that 10K and get a return, or at least put the money into a vehicle that many people would want, like a newer truck. If I had to sell my SLT tomorrow, I know it would be no problem at all, and I would get more than I owe. Try selling an old C10 really fast, good luck!

Put that 10K into a newer vehicle that has some value, and is a pleasure to drive. Quiet interior, technology, excellent ride and handling, it makes way more sense. As much sense as spending money on vehicles could make anyways.

Everyone likes my 75. And I mean everyone... I endlessly get stopped to be chatted at. All ages.

Truck rumbles like a race car, burns tires all day, and I can fix anything on it without a computer.

I could sell my truck in a day. But that would be foolish.

While my Silverado is at the dealer for a few days, they gave me a dealer rental car, a 2015 Chevy Malibu.

As I am driving down the freeway I started reminiscing about my Malibu I used to own.

Back when I got out of high school, one of my first cars was a 1964 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu SS.

I fixed the car up and had all the bodywork done and painted. I did the interior and did all the mechanical work on it. It had the 283 with the Powerglide 2 speed transmission.

Do you remember those days of points and condensers, vacuum advance, and my car had to have that green smog device on the radiator hose with the two vacuum lines going to the engine, I don't remember what it was called. Darn California smog laws of the 70's!

Now today, if I see any Chevelle at a car show, I am pulled towards it to check it out and see the beauty of muscle cars of the past.

Driving today, I don't think in 20 years...if I am still here, I would be saying, "Wow, check out that 15 Malibu, I want to check it out."

I just don't think today's cars have the appeal like cars of the 60's or 70's and I may be wrong...men 40 years from now may be proud to own a 2015 Malibu.

So do you think you will be drooling over the current model cars 20 - 30 years from now?

I agree with all of this. No one will care about anything made in 2016. And if a rig is made that becomes a classic, it will already be unobtanium. This vehicle will be priced out of the range of 99.99% of the people on the planet.

You are missing the point.

Even if you spent $1, and not 10K, to get that truck to where it is now, who cares about it? Who is your market audience? Who wants to drive a 1975 C10? When people decide to go searching for a vehicle, your 40 year old machine never crosses their mind, ever. If this has personal value to you, then fine, there is no price you can put on that.

However, from a stand point of realism, never invest money in anything old, especially old vehicles. Remember, everything in this world is only worth what people are willing to pay. You might think your C10 is worth 10 or 15K, but if the highest bidder you ever found was for 3K, guess what, it is now worth 3K. Obviously you love that old thing, that's your choice. But in my mind, even a totally restored 40 year old C10 wouldn't be worth any cash at all, because the market is offering so many better places to put your money when it comes to automobiles.

My 2015 SLT lists out at $61,000 with all the bells and whistles. I paid just shy of 43K for it, plus I put down cash. If I had to sell it tomorrow, I could, no problem, to a large audience of wanting buyers. Not to mention, I would bet any money that my 2015 SLT could walk your inefficient 550, all while having the heated seats on and hearing virtually nothing inside the cabin. With modern day engines and the lighter weight of today's vehicles, 300HP today, can do what 500HP took in the old days.

Keep your old worthless iron, I am not going to argue with someone stuck in the old days. I wish you all the best with your C10, and Merry Christmas.

I would love to have that truck with that type of power.

The person bashing your vehicle and your posts just doesn't get it I guess. Some people got all tied up int this green movement, fuel efficency, and fancy technology features nonsense. They judge a vehicle by the size of the tv screens in the headrest or how many mpg's they get.

I would love to see pictures of your completed truck, and hear an exhaust clip of that thing firing up.

There's nothing like the sound of a BB GM carb'd engine. Keep building that truck and don't let the technology geeks run you down!

In my 60's, lived in Michigan during the muscle car era, big family all drove a muscle car. Weekends at the drag strip, very competitive, a lot of fun, a lot of wrenching and learning, glad I was there.

Back then top fuel was doing 7 second quarter miles, today breaking 4 seconds. Yea the advance in technology is nice as far as reliability and less maintenance, no carbs, points etc.

Every summer there is an auto show by me that will have new and old alike. The muscle cars get the most attention, carbed, blown, fire breathing, rough riding, but the sound of a naturally aspirated motor with headers gotta love it.

Can't decide if you're trolling this dude or if you really have no appreciation for automotive history and are completely igorant of what some (certainly nowhere near all) classic automobiles bring at auction?

It's actually surprising how much money some of the old cars and trucks bring in. An old 60's-70's muscle car restored properly will go for up to $100,000 or better, even more with original paperwork. If you think I am feeding BS,research and pay attention to auctions such as Barret-Jackson. They are packed with nothing but muscle cars/trucks and there isn't a modern vehicle on the planet that come close to the prices. There are thousands of people attending and thousands more bidding over the phone in an attempt to own one of these great pieces of automobile history.

These "40 year old, heavy, inefficient, noisy, uncomfortable, riding like crap, handling like crap, has virtually no features" will out sell pretty much any newer vehcile that's packed with all kind of silly technology.

If you are "never impressed" with any older restorations, you are not a car/truck guy and have absolutely no idea what an impressive, valuable vehicle is. You can have your 40MPG little hybrid cars that sound like a wet fart when running, TV screens and touch screens all over the place.

I would much rather have an old restored 500HP muscle car that sounds just as good as it looks.

You have no business telling someone their vehicle is worthless because you can't appreciate a good vehicle. I hope he finishes his build and it sells for $100,00+. He can then take a freshly baked pie and slap you right in the face with it..................Sorry but people who have absolutely no idea what they are talking about and bash others that do piss me off.

My point is, old cars are only worth something to old car collectors. In the current automobile market, they are useless and worthless.

How could you think an old car is cool? Have you seen what is being produced and engineered today? Take a brand new Camaro and a fully restored 68 or 69, give me the 2015 any day. It is superior in every single category. You marvel at 50 year old engineering which is elementary at best, and think nothing of the highly complex systems being engineered today.

Why would anyone want to invest money in an old vehicle? By the way, what I am referring to is the old C10 the previous poster has. Those things are not worth a lot of money. Now, putting money into an old fastback Mustang or a genuine SS 60's Camaro, absolutely, worth it. An old C10 is just that, an old C10.

I appreciate newer vehicles that are well kept, not old junk and primitive technology.
