Cleaning powder coated rims

Recommended Posts

So i have a 2014 Sierra SLT with stock 22s. Attached is a picture of the rims. From my understanding these are powder-coated (i am a noob at this so i am not sure) and i am not sure what is the best way to clean them outside of standard car wash shampoo.

Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance and happy truckin!

Just clean them as you would any other wheel. Use a good cleaner with a good brush or bug sponge. Wash, rinse, dry, detail. You can also wax your wheels too if you want. Keep doing it every wash and that helps. I'm sure there is also wheel sealant products available too.

Not all wheel cleaners have acids in them. But I would agree with not using a wheel cleaner. Since the car is so new, its highly unlikely that your rims will have troublesome caked on brake dust that would require harsh chemicals. A quality wheel woolie and an old, but clean, MF will do the trick. Or like Softtail said, just use an old wash mitt. Be sure to use a separate bucket for your rims that you don't use for your paint.

One other thing I suggest doing is waxing the rims after you clean them. Wax will help aid in the removal of brake dust and other debris during future washes.
