Hotrod, I have an 8.1L/Allison combo. Stock my truck put out 269hp/314ft/lbs. So to me it seems like you aren't making as much as you could considering that whipple says that the intercooled kit is supossed to put out 512hp/740ft/lbs on the motor. So if you are putting out 363.6hp/469.9ft/lbs. Then you are coming up 148.4hp/270.1ft/lbs short and I do not think the allison tranny takes that much power to run. I would look in to a custum chip or call whipple to see what they say. Take it easy

Hotrod,

I don't think that your dyno numbers are as far off as 2500hdbb has stated. 2500hdbb stock hp number was 269 at the rear wheels. The engine is rated at 340hp. If you divide 269 by 340 you get 0.79 or 79% efficiency through the driveline. Your number at the real wheels was 363.6 hp. Making the same calculation with Whipple's claimed hp rating and your dyno number (363.6/512) gets you 0.71 or 71%. The lower number could be a result of your stock hp number being slightly lower than 2500hdbb's but at the most you are about 8% or 41hp (512 x 0.08) lower than you should be. Have you talked to Whipple about this problem? Good luck and keep us updated!

Seems to run better with the hypertech. It is a allison tranny. When you get on it it feel's like it is holding back. I would like to know what it was stock. :chevy:

I am not sure about the 8.1 with the Whipple but on the 6.0 they recommend that you not use the Hypertech programmer. They have their own Power Programmer that is supposed to remove the torque management also. That is probably why it feels "like it is holding back".

Whipple says you loose 36% thru the allison and 4x4. They also say not to use hypertech's programer But Hypertech said if you didn't here any pinging you where ok. Neither one of these programers do anything with the allison. Just one person saying only use there product.

I am talking to arizona speed and marine about there new intake and throttle body for the 8.1 looks pretty cool if it will fit.

Hotrod 496: Nice numbers! I don't think they are far off from what Whipple advertises. It's been awhile since I dynoed my 8.1 Suburban but I believe it was in the 360-370hp range.

bstewart: Which supercharger are you running and what do you think about the truck now compared to when it was stock? There aren't many in my area so I haven't had a chance to take one apart yet. I drove one yesterday and found that's it's not what I'm used to in the horsepower department but I REALLY like the truck. I trying towing a 10,000lb car hauler and it had to work to do this (I know, that was more than it's rated for). Another 150-200hp would be very good for this.
