Re-gear for 33" tires - What Ratio would you choose?

Recommended Posts

You guys planning on doing a re-gear should definitely do at least a 4.10. I'm the OP for this thread and I've been researching it for quite some time now. Every shop and person I've talked to recommends at least a 4.10. If your truck came with 3.08, 4.10 will be night and day difference. If your coming from 3.42, 3.73 isn't a big enough difference to justify. I've been told by everyone that's regeared that you can never have "too much" gear. Yes gas mileage will suffer a little bit, but you don't go buying a truck and putting bigger, heavier tires on it to get good fuel economy. Not to mention, if you put bigger tires on and decide to tow something, you will be doing it with ease.

Anyways, that's just my take on it and what I've come up with. I will be getting my tires soon and I'm planning on doing a 4.10 swap. I will post my thoughts on here as soon as I get it done.

Imo

Lift rear-end swap

And put a blower on your colorado

While the colorado is going to be the speed demon it will eventually get a snail.... All i want is my silverado to put down 500 and the colorado to out down anything above 700. I dont think i can drive much more then that.

I hate the "imma build a 1000hp truck but someone else drives ut at the track" thing that is popular where i am from.

The colorado is a crew cab but it was my first truck so it has a special place in my heart lol

Back to the silvy.

My dilemma is that im still torn between 6 and 4 inches of lift.... I know BDS makes both but dang this is a hard decision

If i go 35s it will be 4.10s

And if i wanted good gas mileage i wouldnt have bought a truck... Much less plan on a blower and lift lol

Yeah but it was nice before the lift/tres/blower when I could get 21mpg around town and now I'm lucky to get 12-13, hahaha.

I did visit there site once. What does there tunes run in person

I bought the AutoCal and had them do a tune for me via email so I have no idea how much an in person tune costs. Try looking for "Jennabear" on here, she works at Black Bear and can answer just about any question you may have.

If you could keep your foot out of it!!!!

From what i have seen 4.10s is the go to gear. I went from 3.73s to 4.10s in my colorado and it was a slight difference... I can imagine 3.08 to 4.10

when you guys are re gearing are you just swapping gears in the rear end or are you re gearing in the front too?

If you have 4wd you have to do both front and rear. Should you only do one and engage 4wd, bad things will happen.

You HAVE to do both.... The difference in rotation speed will flat out shatter your transfer case.. I have seen it happen. You do both.... If you can do both at once you pull the fuse for your 4WD until you do the front. I will be doing both at once.

I actually think with these new pickups, the front is the same as previous generation. It's the different housing size of the rear diff thats causing havoc for everyone wanting to do a gear swap.

  • 5 months later...

My current setup up on a 2015 Silverado 5.3 is 4.10 gears, Magnuson blower, American Racing Headers. The truck has 35's on 22's and the 4.10 are perfect. I previously had 33's on 20's with the 3.08's and they were horrible. If you are going to stay all motor, I would do 4.10's on 33's, with an intake and exhaust, tune you will be happy. Just my opinion

Where did you get all your motor work done?

Yes the fronts are the same, the rears are totally different and when your in the rear minas well change the G80 crap out. I love my truck but looking to sell the magnuson and get the procharger

Why do you want to sell yhe magnuson?

Just want more power and the sound of the Procharger. The magnuson is nice but I want something a little loud.

I did the work myself, except the gears, pretty easy to do, I just had to pay someone to do the tuning.
