Loud door chime defeated.

Recommended Posts

Hashed out repeatedly with no apparent way out. But what I have figured out is a simple behavior mod on my own part. Mine was really only a problem when I would get in, start the truck, then buckle my seat belt. Reverse process, get in (can put key in ignition but don't start the truck) buckle seat belt then turn key = no chimes at all. Passenger seat belt chime seems to be on a delay, so even if I get ahead of passenger, 9 times out of 10, there's enough of a delay that it still doesn't go off. Yes it will still chime if key is left in ignition and door is opened, just need to remember to remove key. No, not totally disabled, just defeated - and liveable now.

After you turn the truck off you can pull the key out 1/4 inch or so push it back in and it won't chime when you open the door. Or you can open the door with the key in and its chiming do the same pull the key out alittle and push it back in and no chime at least I can do this with mine.

I printed this thread and gave it to dealer this morning: http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/topic/179963-damn-my-door-chime-hurts-my-ears/

Service tech said the PIT number was useful, and they would check it out. I will update upon return of vehicle. They are also doing TC update and something else.

Update:

Chime is still "loud", but decidedly less loud than it was.

Also, truck drove well before TC update - seems same, maybe a little better...but again, I wasn't bitching when I took it in, so no change is fine with me.

I want to ask about the "chime volume" update... Is this something that the dealer has to set (volume level) or does it add something to the DIC where the driver can go in and select a level?

If loud chimes are a problem there are two things you can do to address.

The chime volume is linked to the voice control volume, so with the truck on, press the voice button on the steering wheel then lower the volume on the radio. It will say 'voice volume' and will let you only drop the voulme a little below half way.

Next, use the audio/menu/tone setting to move the balance back a couple of clicks.

The dash twiddlers are obnoxiously loud and some signal needs to be taken away from them via the balance

Having adjusted multiple volume levels (including ones Crew suggests), the dealer fix was only thing that adjusted seatbelt/key chime. Only down side was they somehow screwed up my preset station order.

Is there any OBD Port diagnostic tool that can drastically lower the alarm ? I don't mind gentle reminders but that thing screaming at me annoys me enough I will buy another brand next time. Ford, Toyota and RAM can be totally turned off with an on off key stroke and multiple buckle unbuckle seat belt.

Tried all the other menu lowering, I also plow low speed parking lots and need to be unbelted to twist and turn for visibility.

Buy a OBD2 tech scanner and simply turn off seat belt and other alarms

A tech2 is just a bit more advanced than your run of the mill obd2 scan tool. You need bidirectional tool and I believe on 2014 and up, tech2 does not work.
