Tuned and converter to flex fuel, Sierra Denali 6.2

Recommended Posts

Ok, I thought it would be best to start a new thread on the L86, 6.2 motor with this combo, "tuned and converter to E85". There is as similar one on the 5.3, also done by the tuner- Carl @Lancer Auto Service, but I didn't want to hijack that thread.

So, here it goes; I had Carl do a "performance tune" a month ago to my 6.2 after I installed a Airaid CAI intake. It felt like it ran better and I was happy. Talking to him and the guys where he works, we talked about how he has been adding the GM flex fuel sensors to other engines and how much more power there are making.

Being an old gear head, I couldn't stop thinking how much more fun more power would be, plus, E85 is so much cheaper than premium gas is that I always use.

Ok, order up the parts I said... Carl and his crew of cool guys installed the sensor, added new fuel lines and make up a custom wiring harness to make a factory looking install. I met him that evening at a facility that has a Dyno and and all the proper computer equipment. First he reinstalled the stock tune map, did a few dyno pulls. Then installed his custom tune map and did more pulls. Next we added 10 gallons of E85 to my trucks tank ( maybe 2-3 gallon of premium left in tank) ran it until E85 was coming at a steady % and did a bunch of dyno pulls, each time, fine tuning and readjusting advance timing, fuel amounts, secret stuff, etc. until he felt happy with the results.

I've been driving around with it for just a few days, but it's really strong now and today the fun surprise was this. E85,$1.49 Instead of Premium $2.46

I know it will probably get 25% less mpg, but huge difference!

I'll let you know after a few tanks what I'm getting on the freeways and in town.

Nice

Proves what we have been saying about E85 and people trying to dismiss

Good to see you can convert the new 6.2 to E85 one reason why I want to keep my 2010

What is the custom wiring harness you mentioned? What I mean is what role is the harness playing?

Where we mount the fuel comp sensor the harness is required as an extension to the stock harness. I have a pic here of the way we set it up. For those that are interested I will be launching a tuning website next week that will have more info on it. Still have a lot of work to do this weekend.

A little video clip of my Denali getting a dyno pull by Carl.

(I was near a HUGE fan during the pull...) it muted my engine roaring.
