2014 K&N Install. Check Engine Light & Remote Start Problems.

Recommended Posts

Morning everyone,

I installed a K&N cold air intake on my 2014 Silverado last night (5.3). Sounds great, throttle response has definitely improved.

Two issues:

My check engine light is now on, and my factory remote start no longer works.

Any idea as to what might cause this? Any assistance would be much appreciated.

Thank you,

TB

At any point did you have the trucks electronics on during the install? You have to unplug a couple sensors on your intake and if the electronics are on it would throw a code. Unplug the battery for 30 sec and see if it comes back.

When I installed my headers they were throwing codes for the new cats, P0420 and P0430. This wouldn't let my remote start work either. I had to turn off the rear sensors to get the codes to go away. Once they were cleared my remote start issues went away.

I had a small crack in my k/n intake when i first installed it. It was right at the spot where the maf screws in. It caused a cel but after contacting k/n theysold me just the tube and the light went away. Also, if at any point, for anyreason, there is a cel, the remote start absolutely will not function

Just a habit of mine over the years... I always disconnect the negative on the battery when messing with anything electronic..

If you did not disconnect the negative on the battery you will have a CEL light. I would go over the install and make sure everything is installed correctly, make sure the connector for the MAF is plugged in and seated fully. If so then disconnect the negative terminal and wait a minute then connect it again, light should go away. No way a brand new K&N CAI will cause a CEL in regards to the MAF, I have been running their systems for years with no issues.

As said, if a CEL is tripped the remote start is locked out until the CEL is cleared.

I installed a 63 series K&N CAI on ‘16 Yukon 5.3. Disconnected negative term on battery, the proceeded with disconnecting factory system and installing new. Reused factory MAF. Connected negative and started up. No codes, let run for a few minutes no codes. Drove around block and nothing still. Sounded great and noticed more pickup in acceleration.  Next morning I leave and while getting on freeway I get up to 4000 rpms on a 15-60mph acceleration and the engine light comes on. I cleared and drove it slow to moderate with no issues, as soon as I get on the gas for a quick acceleration, it kicks on the check engine light. Any ideas here??
