2014 Silverado paint peeling off door

Recommended Posts

Heard of paint peeling off bottom of doors, but not on the window sill. Truck has 19K miles and is well taken care of. Took it to dealer 10 days ago, the service rep looked at it and says he'll do the paperwork. Called today and no response. I can't help but feel like I'm gonna get screwed on this manufacturer's defect.

Anyone know how much it would cost to have a door repainted in California? Although I'm skeptical that it will be the last I see of peeling paint.

My truck is doing it in the same exact spot as you two.  I noticed it a couple of weeks ago.  Brought it in for service and told them about it.  I showed them the passenger side door where it is really bad and on the drivers side where it it is starting to come off.  It's a 2014 with 44k.  The dealership told me it falls outside of the 3/36k bumper to bumper.  I told them I could understand if it was one door but to be in the same exact spot on both rear doors shows there is something more going on.  I called customer service and the rep did call me back today but I missed the call.  Hopefully they will do something.

I don't think GM uses primer anymore. As far as I can tell the paint is sprayed directly on the greenish grey zinc coated steel, or whatever the coating is. They just dip these tinfoil panels in a zinc bath to prevent rot and hit them with a 0.0001" coating of paint.

There is nothing you can do, Ford and Dodge use the same paint methods and also have trouble. Only thing you can do is have the truck repainted properly, preferably with oil paint if you can still find it in the US. Water based is not great.

I noticed for a while that the paint was peeling on the inside of my truck bed and on the inside of the tail gate.  I was ok with it because I was planning to get a bed liner put in.  But after a search on 2014 Silverado paint peeling, I was pretty shocked.  So far I have not seen any peeling anywhere else, but I'm sure its just a matter of time.  It makes me sick seeing the pictures posted here and online.  For the most part, I could deal with mechanical or electrical related repairs/fixes but paint peeling, that sucks, especially for those of us that are particular about our rides.
