Diablo inTune - Question about AFM

Recommended Posts

I've been reading a number of reviews about the Diablo inTune I1000 tuner. About 75% of the reviews are good.

From what I gather, people are able to deactivate the AFM on their 14/15 trucks. I've never used a tuner before.

Do you have to deactivate the AFM? In other words, does the tuner give you the option to keep the AFM active?

You do not have to deactivate AFM. It just gives you the option to. You should check out DiabLew if you're getting one.

Thanks.....If I do the $400 inTune, I may consider the $150 custom tune. I would wanna hear some feed back from those who did it first.

I used Lew to tune my truck and I love it. If you go through his site you get a small discount. Everything is done through email. Everyone on here has an opinion about different tuners, so be sure and do lots of research!

the reason people like to disable AFM is because when adding aftermarket exhaust, you can hear the motor go into V4 mode, and it is not a pleasant sound. Some exhaust manufacturers sound better that others in V4 mode, like Borla or Corsa, but you will still hear the V4 "helicopter" noise as it has been come to be known. When you turn off V4 mode, you will have a nice V8 tone at all speeds.

I had my AFM turned off for a while and turned it back on recently. But I thinking about turning it back off. I didn't find a significant increase in fuel mileage with AFM turned on. So i think it is better being off.

Yes, I'm aware of the V8 to V4 sound with after-market exhaust. That's why I went with the Borla-GM Touring exhaust with internal flapper valve. Before buying it, I had considered the regular Borla exhaust along with the $200 AFM deactivator device some other company offers. The battery drain issue after a few days of not driving was what halted that idea. I just can't decide on the tuner thing yet. Part of me wants to wait until I've had the truck for a while longer. Its just that some with tuners are so happy with the tune.

I purchased the Diablo intune i2 from Diablew with the custom tune from Lew. For a years worth of custom tunes from Lew if changes are made to the vehicle, the extra charge for the tunes is well worth the added cost. I bought a V-8 and wanted the V-4 mode disabled. The difference in the performance / responsiveness of the engine and transmission is outstanding to say the least, for an otherwise stock truck. I'm still averaging 19mpg for the type of driving I'm doing. I'm very pleased with the product and the custom tune from Lew. Cheers

Sorry if this keeps being said but the helicopter pissed off rice burning v4 mode isn't just a figment or my imagination. That's good to hear. I got so pissed when I put a super 40 and that crazy sound, well sounded horrible. Definetely want to disable the v4 mode. Is there a way to do it without a programmer? Is there a programmer I can attach and turn it off and remove it? Any issues with warranty foot print evidence? Any one programmer better than the other without breaking the bank?

Range has an AFM disabler that you plug in and keep in when you want AFM disabled. Then you simply unplug it before going to dealer.

For me, $200 was just too much for that. You can probably find one used for cheaper. But I am extremely happy I just saved and went with a full tune and AFM disable. Performs so much better now.

Ok thanks for that. I think 200 just to disable it seems a bit much. Was looking at a Diablo tuner for like 400 that will allow for many aspects and tune the whole truck. Just not sure about foot prints.

bringin up an old thread here.

want to see if any of you are successfully running and enjoying the i1000 intune, not the i2. I am looking to pick up an i1000 from the classifieds, mainly to turn off AFM and adjust for tire size, not too concerned about the performance settings.

Main concern on whether it will work for a 2015 6.2 thanks
