80mph Vibration 2002 HD 6.0 4x4 Crew Cab

Recommended Posts

I have a 2002 2500 HD 4x4 Crew Cab.  I have had it about 3 weeks and noticed what feels like a drive train vibration from around 78 - 88 mph.  Smooth up to that point and after 90 mph.  I had a '93 Z71 5.7L before this truck and had 182K miles on her when I traded.  Never noticed that type of problem with the Z71.

The new truck only has 13K miles on it so it is still under warranty.  Should I have it checked or is this common with the 6.0L 4spd auto combination?

Thanks.

Places to go..... people to see.....

Actually I am jsut keeping up with the Nashville interstate traffic believe it or not!!  We drive pretty fast here in NASCAR country!!

Any ideas on the vibration??

I can feel the vibration mainly through the accelerator pedal.  Not really a seat of the pants vibration.  If I shift into neutral while going that speed the vibe seems to go away at the accel pedal??

Does that sound like a drive shaft?  Or could it be something else?

Thanks for any insight.   ???

LOL, this thread reminds me of a time when I was working on a computer system at a VW dealer.  I was installing a new computer in the service area when a younger german kid came in and needed service with his highly modified GTI.  The service advisor asked him what his problem was.  He stated that he had a "shimmy or shake" at high speeds.  The advisor took his keys and info...during this time he was asking questions about the car.  This is when the car owner stated it would start showing these problems around 130 mph.... you should have seen the advisors face when he said that.... it was priceless... needless to say the car did not get serviced... LOL.

sorry for the off-topic post, but this topic reminded me of this story...

I used to drive 80-85 everywhere, then I realized how much I hate a holes passing me doing 20 mph more and two of my friends died, so I slowed down.........  Luckily I learned young that not only is it more fun, but you get better gas mileage doing the speed limit..........gives you time to view the scenery.  18 and lovin' my Ford hehehehehe.

I rode with my friend who has an 81' C10 with a tuned port 350 in it, and he drove like a jack ass........... I hope this isn't how all chevy owners drive

Gotta be disappointing that brand new trucks have vibrations though.........  I had a similar vibration and it turned out to be a combination of out of balance tires and a ball joint, but I'd say I sure hope your truck wouldn't have these problems already....  Couldn't feel it through the wheel, only the rest of the truck lol.

Sorry to hear about your friends.

I was simply testing out the truck on INTERSTATE where everyone runs an average of 75-80.... not just the Chevy Drivers.

I thought I could get some real insight on the problem with my truck from the GM Truck forum.... Ends up I am getting more opinions on how to drive than what the problem may be with the vehicle.

I appreciate all of the "caring" folks on the forum... but if anyone tells me that they never drive 75-80 on a 4 lane flat, straight interstate highway.... I would have to say they are stretching it a bit.....  Thanks again.
