2014 Sierra Driver's Door Won't Lock/Unlock with Remote Key Fo

Recommended Posts

I'm having a frustrating issue with my 2014 Sierra 1500. I exit the truck, shut the door, and hit the lock button on the remote key fob. All doors (except the driver's door) lock, the lights flash, and the horn chirps for the alarm. The driver's door remains unlocked, yet the security system is armed. When I open the door the horn chirps until I put the key in the ignition. The only way to lock the driver's door is to manually push the lock down before you shut the door or shut the door then lock it with the key from the outside.

Then when I go to unlock the truck, all the doors unlock but the driver's door. I can see the lock moving - it's like it unlocks and then re-locks itself. It is very strange. I have to use the key to unlock the door.

This started last weekend when I borrowed the battery from the key fob to use for another car. While the battery was out of the key fob I used the key to lock and unlock the truck. I started having these issues when I reinstalled the battery into the key fob.

If this is a mechanical/actuator issue I find it a huge coincidence that it picked this exact time to stop working. I'm thinking the remote needs to be reset or something, but I can't find any info on how to do that. I've tried taking the battery back out as well as changing around all the settings related to locking or auto-locking within the vehicle settings.

My warranty ended 48 days ago, so I'm hesitant to take it to the dealer. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I'm thinking that it needs to be reprogrammed. But all of the instructions I found say for 2014 up, need to take it to the dealer to have it reprogrammed. Up until 2013, there were steps you could do yourself...

Hey guys, thanks for the replies.

Good idea to check the other key fob - just did that, and I have the same issues. I guess it's not an issue with the key fob.

If I sit in the truck, with the truck running, and hit the lock or unlock button enough times it will eventually do what I want it to do. The first few times I hit the button nothing happens. Then the next couple times it will move the desired direction, then move immediately back. Then the next couple times it will move the desired direction, then move immediately half-way back. Then after hitting the button a couple more times it will do what I want it to. This also happens sometimes with the remote from outside the vehicle. Very strange.

I've tried it with the "Anti Lockout" feature both on and off, with no difference. Seems like that feature might not be working correctly.

Also, the driver's door does not automatically lock when put in gear or automatically unlock when put into park. The other three doors do.

My next step is to remove/reload the tune. I'll let you know if that fixes the issue.

If anyone else has any ideas, I'm all ears. Thanks.

Having the same problem on my 2014 Silverado. Try the Front passengers door switch  if it works then it is most likely the drivers door lock actuator if not then most likely the BCM. I looked at a wiring diagram the door lock actuators are supplied power When the BCM see's a voltage drop from the door lock switch. To add to the complexity hit the child lock, see if it flashes a code when you do. I find when my locks are operational the child lock is also and when the door locks are not working neither is the child lock function. There is a relay in that circuit it may be worth swapping out...  I took the door panel off and supplied power to the door lock actuators, they worked every time. Good luck, I've learned to deal with it.
