GM-Trucks.com reached out to our contacts at General Motors today and asked if the Volkswagen dirty-diesel cheating scandal would in any way delay the launch of the new 2016 Colorado and Canyon Duramax Diesel trucks due in October. The answer was all good news. GM confirmed that "Colorado and Canyon diesels are on track to go on sale later this fall. These are diesel trucks with urea after treatment systems so we don't expect any impact." Urea treatment is one of the catalyst systems used to control the output of NOx, a pollutant.

As we covered in a recent story, Volkswagen has admitted to concocting a software over-ride of the emissions systems on all of its top-selling diesel cars from about 2009- through 2015 and has pulled its current models off of the market. We have never implied that GM would be caught up in such a scheme, however, diesel vehicles will be under a spotlight now. The news that there is no delay will be welcomed by the many fans planning to purchase a diesel Canyon or Colorado.
