let's see those waxed 14's 15's

Recommended Posts

My Iridium All Terrain Sierra is nearly new so I'm fortunate to not have many scratches just yet, I'll probably clay next spring after the winter roads hit my truck. But I have a black work car that is ... Ugh, in need of some attention. I was thinking of clay and then figuring out how a polisher works and going at it to get the scuffs and swirls out. Any specific basic product that would be good to get it as good as a "work" car can get?

Pick up a Porter Cable 7424/7424XP. They are crazy easy to use and learn with. Lots of time the clay will actually remove or fill in the "holograms". This is kind of an illusion though. The surface of paint that hasn't been clayed will obviously have some fallout which is obviously why you'll clay anyway. The holograms are not only created by repetitive washing/drying. Each time you wipe the paint with the surface being contaminated (fallout) the particles embedded within the paint will cause these holograms to appear because the drying towel is catching and dragging against an unclean surface which is the illusion of scratches in the paint. Once the paint is clayed; go ahead and drag your drying towel (always microfiber) across the paint. You'll notice you won't have any ,ore scratches showing up. Clay also really brightens up the paint after the process. All of the fallout is gone!

Apply your sealant or wax (you can also apply wax over certain types of sealants) sealant and voila ........ your paint looks awesome! You can also clay wheels and glass ....... seal the wheels with a high heat compatible product. Wheel Wax works pretty well. Much easier to keep the wheels clean and shiny.

By the way, I also have my first Iridium All Terrain. Haven't owned this color before so I'm looking forward to seeing the finish after a clay/compound/polish/CQuartz seal/CQuartz spray seal. NOT really looking forward to all of the paint on this monster though.

I'm done typing for now. LOL.

Wow great info. Thank you very much! I used Chemical Guys Jet Seal and Butter Wet Wax on my All Terrain and wife's Jeep (silver). Looks tight and right and am quite happy with the products. I'll probably do the Jet Seal after a clay on the work car. It definitely needs a good polish as multiple holograms and surface scratches from car washes are driving me nuts. Copias amounts of tire shine isn't distracting me anymore...

Absolutely.

I used to use the same sealant and wax. Collinite 845 is a great wax (acts more like a sealant). The Butter Wet just doesn't last very long. If you've ever heard of a wax called Fuzion ........ now that's great stuff for dark colors as well as metallics. The flake will look deep & rich!

I think you are talking about Wolfgangs Fuzion... It is good stuff, but for the price the CG 50/50 is just as good at a third of the price. If you want to compare $ vs $ try the CG Celeste Dettaglio... Pretty killer wax for under 200

Yeah, that's the wax.

Another great wax is Supernatural. Around $200 ........ then again there are waxes that are upward of $5K. Yeah ...... nah, I'll pass.

I was a vendor of Chemical Guys products a few years ago. CG 50/50 is OK. Longevity isn't so great though.

Not a great picture, but this is mine after a clay, chemical guys blacklight, and chemical guys v07.

Love it.

Question, did you color the front GMC badge or did you purchase it? The reflection looks great!

longevity is a derivative of washing habits and products. I have seen people bitch when they wax their cars and then wash them with dawn....Then wonder why their wax isn't holding up. It always amazes me.

Supernatural is really nice stuff. I thought it was funny that it is called Dodo juice. I have a few friends that have different products. It is nice to pass around different products to help lessen the blow on the wallet.

Mmmmm ok. Well, I hope it lasts longer than usual store bought wax. The biggest thing I'm excited about is to see how well the sealant lasts (Jet Seal).

JetSeal will last a while dependant upon how you maintain the paint. What's nice about the JS is that you can layer it although you'll want to give the first coat a few hours to cure before applying another coat.

I feel like unless you're working with really nice paint OR you're going to keep your vehicle a garage queen ..... the higher dollar wax just isn't warranted.

Honestly, in between washes Optimumspray and Meguairs X-Press Wax work really well and don't cost a small fortune. It's a great bargain to purchase them in the gallon size. The X-Press Wax is very good for cleaning windows too! Guaranteed no streaks.
