Fuel Maverick Wheels chipped paint and gouged?!

GMC207

Recommended Posts

I just got my fuel maverick wheels installed at a local off road shop. I didnt notice until last night, about 3-4 days after, that they are chipped and gouged up. Am I being picky or is this normal? I am just shocked they look like this from day 1.post-147823-0-59073300-1443105358_thumb.jpgpost-147823-0-32680400-1443105348_thumb.jpgpost-147823-0-55593300-1443105368_thumb.jpg

That is DEFINITELY, 150%, without question from a tire mounting machine. Maybe the arm itself didn't touch the wheel, but I bet the clamping mechanism made contact a couple times. How the hell else would the machine hold the wheel to spin it to mount the tire? Been there, done that.

I don't know what to do about it. I called them and they denied that the machine even touches the wheels. They said they will have to talk to the guy who installed them and see if he saw any scratches lol. I'm like well they didn't just appear on all my wheels in the same exact spots by coincidence. This stuff always happens to me without fail. My buddies all say I have to have new trucks because if i bought a used one the motor would pop the next day. lol.

So here's the thing. These newer mounting machines have a fixed arm with the piece that "slips" the tire over the lip of the rim as the turntable holding the wheel spins and no, it doesn't technically touch the edge of the wheel. BUT!!!!! The pneumatic clamps that grab the wheel either on the inner lip or from the inside out in the hoop of the wheel stick up off the turntable. So when the installers don't pay attention and just plop the wheel down on the turntable, they often knick/gouge the edges of the wheel OR don't mount the wheel perfectly planer in relation to the fixed arm which cause the wheel to "wobble" on it's plane of rotation and causing it to contact the fixed piece. And that, ladies and germs, is how an engineer tells a tire guy he ****ed up his wheels, lol.

You also have to understand were the shop is coming from. OP said its been 3-4 days. The shop doesn't know we're he has driven his truck or done with it in that time. think about it something could have bumped into it in a parking lot or a kid did it on purpose. No way am I standing up for the tire shop but this is why I always check my truck anytime I pick it up from service at the delership or tire shop. Because I have been in the same boat and when I notice it a day later or so the response I get from the shop is you have been driving it for a few days how do we not know a rock didn't fly up and chipped your truck. This is why like I said always check your truck out for damages after they hand you your keys before you drive off.

I understand it's been 3 days but every wheel had the same scratches in the same spots. It's clearly from the installation. I just never expected id need to look for scratches on my wheels at a place like this. I've done business with them for years and have spent thousands there. Im going to have to go see them when I get a day off. I work the next 7, so that won't help much.
