Custom rear under seat storage build/experiment

Recommended Posts

Hello all. So ive been looking into options for rear under seat storage for crew cabs, and all i can find is overpriced plastics. I am a woodworker by trade (aka wood butcher), and have some of the very finest tools/machines available to me (including a cnc router), so i figured id give building one, a shot. So far the project is in its infancy but heres a few pics of the start...

Looking good!

Thanks! I will hopefully make some headway this week. The fact that there are so many angles and bumps in the floor really makes this difficult. Its alot of trial and error. I will probably line the inside with trunk liner and leather wrap the exterior to match the seats. I also plan to make a hinged (and possibly lockable) lid. The good news is, that once i get it all dialed in, i will be able to build these out pretty smoothly. If only i had more people wanting these...

Nice man, allways feels good to make something yourself. I have the stock plastic under seat storage, and I modified the mounting arms. The seat bolt it mounts on had enough threads to put a wing nut on, so I shortened the arms so they sit on top of the nut that holds the seat down. Now the mounting arms sit on top of the nut and the storage unit mounts by wing nuts, easy in and out!!

I might be interested depending on cost. What I really want is a combo storage box / sub enclosure. This would sure fit the bill. I'd like the sub to look built in, but still be removable if need be.

Looks great though!

Thanks! Ive considered (and havent ruled it out yet) doing a sub on one side. Space is very limited, as im sure you already know and still working on the logistics of that. I do have a background in car audio as well. Ive even considered doi g a fiberglass enclosure so all avaiable space is utilized. ie: glassing the floor of the box to be molded to the humps and bumps. Ill keep you posted on progress.
