Popping sound from rear end

Recommended Posts

My 2015 Silverado LTZ 4WD is making a popping sound (from the rear end) on slow turns and when driving slowly on uneven surfaces. It didn't do it the first three months I had it but has been doing it all summer. Been to the dealership three times and they said they're going to order new leaf springs for it when I bring it in for the first oil change. Anyone else having this problem?

Yes.....My 14 All terrains been in the dealer for 2 weeks....they changed my drive shaft & rear and it is still making the noise.... now they are getting an engineer from GMC to come down & " diagnose " where the noise is coming from

I really hate having parts changed on a new truck.....it'll never be the same as the factory, but I dont want it back making that noise either.

It's funny you mention this. I've had my 2014 Silverado 1500 dbl cab (lt tx edition 2wd) since July of 2014. No issues really until about 2 months ago when I first noticed it. Now whenever I go over a speed bump or a driveway at an angle I hear a metal to metal noise sorta like a popping noise. Not sure what it is but I plan on letting the dealer look at it in a week or two when I get my next oil change. Mine only happens when going over a ramp or speed bump at an angle and sometimes I can faintly hear it when I climb up the side of the bed or get in the cab in the am. Going Head on over a speed bump and it's as quiet as the day I bought it. Pretty strange.

Also, I mentioned this to a coworker last week who has a 2014 crew cab Silverado 1500 high country (2wd) and he said he's had the same thing happen for a month or so now.

Yeah it will. The dealer is using the same parts they use at the factory, and it sounds like they didn't do too good of a job either.

Leaf spring mounts lose ? (will make a squeek noise at first, then clunk months later)

Tranny tail shaft not lubed from the factory and occasionally hanging up ?

sorry to hear ...

They tightened the leaf spring mounts already [emoji20]

I bought my 2015 Denali Crew cab just two weeks ago and mine is doing the very same - one metal on metal pop when I first accelerate and then again when I brake or decelerate. Dealer swapped the drive shaft and did not correct it - they too called GM and opened a "ticket" to see if the know of a solution. May call them and schedule a time to swap the leaf springs based on feedback here.

I GM monitoring this site? Surely they have run into this somewhere and have found the cause hence have a solution ... fix by trial and error has to be costly and frustrating for customers and jeopardize their loyalty.
