LTZ Heated Steering Wheel

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone. I am new to this forum, and GM trucks in general. If the answer to my question is here somewhere, I couldn't find it. I apologize if I missed it. My new 3500HD LTZ dually has the heated steering wheel option. It currently does not function. I press the button but the light never comes on. I am told by my dealer there is a temperature requirement outside for these to work. Does anyone know if this is true? Does anyone know what that temperature is? My manual does not mention this at all. Thank you in advance.

There's a little square control module for the heater in the steering wheel behind the airbag. When I changed my steering wheel I kept the controller from my old one and the light didn't come on when I pressed the heater button. That's why I beleive its the culprit in your case.

Along the same topic, the only option my truck is missing is the heated wheel. Does anyone know if this can be added relatively was little at the dealership? There is an obvious blank spot on my steering wheel where the button would be if I had that option. Would this entail a new steering wheel?

The heated wheel in my Silverado and suburban act the same. Get really hot fast then simmer down to a medium or even unnoticeable heat. I imagine the module monitors amperage and temperature and regulates the heat output to prevent you from burns and preserving the life of the heater grid, much like heated seats do. I have noticed the wheel heats much better in the cold winter than it does on cool spring or fall days. Personally I like how mine work because I can keep the heat turned on and not get too hot, unlike heated seats which make me sweat after 5 minutes. The warm wheel helps my hands from cramping and fatigue on long trips and actually helps keep my hands from sweating. Wierd... But that's my story!
