What ever happened to the chamois (shammy)

Recommended Posts

I know everyone likes the micro-fiber towels these days and I have a few. I'm old enough that a chamois was all I ever used in the old days. Is there some reason I shouldn't use one or did they just fall out of favor. I don't see good ones in stores anymore but I still have one layin' around.......somewhere.

I still use mine when I wash my ride. I rarely do my truck imyself anymore, but when I wash my bike I use the Absorber chamois to dry it off. Still works well. Have three of these for various parts in different colors.

Here's a picture of the bike after a nice detailing.

As with anything shown on TV. They have a way of fading into the background, but stay on the market for decades to come. Remember the nufinish wax commercials from the 90's?

Yep, they still make that stuff too.

Mike, I too use to use a chamois to dry with, that is before I knew better.

They are flat and if you would pick up a piece of dirt or grit the dirt has no place to go and you will rub it into your paint and scratch.

The better option is a waffle weave drying towel, they have pockets for any dirt that you may pick up so you don't grind it into your paint.

Check it out!
