Over 3,000 Muscle Cars at our LAST Cruise Night...

After 6 years of Jim T's Summer Cruise (Muscle car cruise-in) of Independence MO, one of the local stores finally complained enough about our loud noises, our foul smells , our "Junk cars" and "stealing" their parking spaces, so they got it shut down for good.

Anyway, for 6 years we have had one of the largest weekly Saturday cruise nights in the United States. We usually run about 400-700 cars every Saturday night. It was widely advertised that this would be the last one. OVER 3,000 MUSCLE CARS SHOWED UP! I've never seen that much American Iron in one place. Also, over 15,000 spectators showed up from the local businesses and restaurants.

 

I have only missed a few in 6 years. It's been a fun ride. Just a few pics of this record setting muscle event!

If you put out the word that you're looking for a new spot, because the health food nuts got you thrown out, something tells me you'll find one pretty quick.

I was looking at the "Jim T's Summer Cruise" Facebook page this morning. They're saying there may have been up to 5,000 cars there! They were parked at Banks, gas stations, restaurants, empty lots over 4 miles away!

Our cars and coffee location got shut down late spring. The property owners sent a notice that it was over and not to come back. Funny because they businesses (Starbucks, food joint, and a ew other shops) liked it because it brought people in.

 

A local performance shop / McClaren dealer said we will welcome you with open arms. So far the new locations works out well. It's right off the highway so we get lots of exposure

19 of the 20 businesses and restaurants loved us. (Buffalo Wild Wings, Bed bath & beyond, World Market, Twin Peaks, Jimmy Johns, etc. etc. etc) Their Saturday night revenue was off the charts.

 

But it only takes one complainer. It's the world we live in.

If food trucks are a thing in your area, hook up with them. Get a local radio station to do a remote there. This could STAY as big as your last one.

Exactly... The problem is that you just can't show up and park somewhere. There are private property and loitering laws.

 

Our cruise was paid by a sponsor, in this case the property owner of the center, who is a muscle car enthusiast and promotor; approximately $1000 a week for the following:

 

• Music/DJ
• Generator/fuel for sound equipment
• Portable toilets
• Trash disposal service
• Ice/bottled water for attendees
• Weekly dash plaques
• T-shirt give-aways
• (This is the big one) A $5,000,000 liability insurance policy for the property owner!

This cruise was done right, and that's why is was so successful for so many years, and why is has been the largest weekly cruise night in the country for the last 3 years.

I'll have to say that the majority of the local business near the cruise did a high percentage of their sales on Saturday nights. It's obvious when you see lines at the registers! Not to mention the 10's of thousands of spectators at the car show. You know they were shopping!

 

The end of this cruise is going to hurt their revenues.

What is the name of the store that shut you down? I live 20 minutes from you, and I will make sure that I NEVER spend a dime in their establishment.
