Hey guys!  I'm installing my new Viper 550 ESP alarm/remote start this weekend in my 1997 GMC Yukon.  I've installed alarms before, but never a remote start.  I wanted to know if you guys would know where I could get wiring info on the truck.  I am looking for something that tells me like "the tach wire is in this location and is this color wire."  I've got factory wiring schematics, but that doesn't help you much when you are trying to locate the wire.

Thanks.

Does your truck have the Passlock system? It complicates the install. Go down to your local Circuit City and ask for the tech sheet for your truck. It gives you EVERYTHING information wise you need to do the install. From what I remember all the "start" wires are found right next to the streering colomn. Does your truck have keyless entry? If so the control modual has some more connections that you need.

My best sugestion is the sheet from Circuit City and confirm the info found there with a multimeter, NEVER a test light.

Have fun and dont be  :owned:  by that truck.

Okay, got the multimeter down.  I usually only use a test light to check hots and switched hots anyway.  Nothing like the tach or anything else.

Is the tech sheet free from Circuit City?

I called my dad (who works at a dealer) and hes looking up my VIN# to find out if I have passlock or not.  He said that if it does, I just have to add a resistor to a certain wire so passlock thinks a key is inserted in order for the remote start to work.  He said he would explain it to me exactly later.

Thanks for the help.

I went to Circuit city and asked them for the tech sheet, but they wouldn't print one out for me.  They said that I could hold them liable for any misinformation.  I kept asking the guy nicely for about 10mins until he got his manager who said the same thing.

He told me to get a chiltons from the library.  Well, I got a haynes just in case.  No chiltons for my truck.  I also got that one you e-mailed me so I should be good for tomorrow.

Sorry about the Circuit City guy, most around here would do it for you. He should know ANY sheet is just a guide and you should always test EVERY wire before connection. If you want to hold off on the install, kick me an e-mail with your address and information, and I'll get you a tech sheet from Circuit City. It really is one of the best install guides I've ever used.

I got the install done on Saturday.  I wasn't in a hurry and it took me about 8 hours.  I could have done it in 3 if I really wanted to.

The CC tech sheet would have definately helped, but I was able to figure it out from the sheets you guys e-mailed. Thanks guys!

I still cant figure out how the hatch popper is supposed to work.  The wire from the alarm is not putting out any juice.

Later
