how do you get more power from the vortec 5.7L?

i see most posts dealing with the 5.3.  I have been getting crappy mileage and I need more power out of this 5.7L pig. i just bought a magnaflow SS exhaust.  Are those Granatelli airflow sensors a needed part and is there a benefit?  I have read mixed reviews of the cold air intakes and even dropping a K&N in.  Any comments?  How about a bored out throttle body-is it made for the vortec? has anyone done the MAS, throttle body, cold air intake and exhaust on the Vortec?  Any comments?
