5.3 direct injection noises

Recommended Posts

So this is my first direct injection motor and I'm unfamiliar with the noises.

My past Chevys with 5.3's never sounded like this, when I listen to it I hear injector noise but I also hear more than that like lifter noise.

It's really noticeable when I'm in a drive-thru because its echoed off the wall.

How normal is this? Is it just the direct injection noise acoustically going through the aluminum heads and block?

Sounds normal to me. Lifter tick can be picked out on these engines with all that DI clatter (we had a 2014 in for regular maintenance and it had a lifter that ticked intermittently), but all noises I heard in that sound normal.

Yeah its normal. I am on my third 2014 and when I got my first one it would drive me nuts at the drive thru bank, McDonalds, CVS ect. But I have to say my latest one sounds perfect. No tick at all. NONE. The only thing I can't get used to is when I am near the truck and remote start it there is a weird noise that I suspect is the fuel pump. :dunno: Or maybe starter. But all three did this. Best advise I can give is to throw a good muffler at it.

No. I go there to get coffee and talk to two pretty new women then go to the attached convenience store and buy a Slim Jim and a Red Bull. :pimp:
