Stabilitrak, Power Steering, Gauges & Display Going Haywire

Recommended Posts

UPDATE FOR MY TRUCK.... I called the dealer last night and left a message. They emailed back this AM and said:

"We drove it multiple times, hot and cold, wet and dry. For a while we had no luck with getting it to duplicate until this morning. Manager got steering to lock up and stabilitrak message to display for a very brief moment like you had.

technician is going to revisit the concern today since we cleared the codes (in the beginning). As soon as I find out more I will let you know. It’s been a busy morning I wanted to get back to you sooner but I didn’t want to wake you or anything.

If you wanted to speak on the phone you can call me whenever. Hopefully this afternoon my technician will have a little bit more positive information since it acted up this morning."

So good news here is that the manager had the same issues this AM that I brought it in for! I told the dealer I am done with the truck. Hi GM. I know you're reading this and following along! If I were you, I'd start taking some pretty serious action here. If I were in your shoes, there would be NO WAY I'd let a customer even sit in a truck that could lose steering at any moment, let alone drive one! Now you know I'm not making things up and the dealership's manager can back that up! Imagine what you'd have on your hands if steering is lost at 60 miles per hour with a full family inside. If I were GM, I'd be pretty nervous right now and I'd be scrambling to get in touch with my customer as quickly as possible to come up with a solution.....

the latest:

"Well GM TAC (Technical Assistance Center) does know about the issue. The TAC advisor had the technician check several areas of the vehicle and we have found excessive voltage drop across the distributor center located near the battery and from the battery to the starter terminal. We have a new distribution center and positive battery cable set on order, expected 10/22-10/23 to arrive and install same day. They had a few cases where voltage drop was excessive across the negative cable, but not a very high number of them. Sure, someday it may become a recall but no action at this time. As I have more information available to me I will contact you with an update."

This is interesting. After they replaced my power steering motor I did see an increase in my voltage read out on the dash. Never really thought much about it, but it increased from being on the lower line all the time to about half way in between center and the high line, with it being on the middle line after driving a while. Thanks for the update. I will pay more attention and see if I notice any more differences.

Just to keep you guys updated with my situation; I have had no issues since I cleaned up the ground from the negative battery terminal to the frame right behind the front passenger-side tire. This was 3 weeks ago. Fingers crossed.

14x4, just curious if this issue ever recurred after you cleaned up the ground connection? I am having the same issue with my truck and the dealer is saying they re-seated the connectors and cleaned up the ground and there is no voltage drop showing on the test points specified by GM Technical Assistance Center.

I am skeptical, but was curious to see if things are still working ok for you.

Thanks,

Nick

You guys are giving me flashbacks to my 2008 avalanche. I chased this EXACT same issue for months. Ended up being the 15 pin connector to the transmission, or the Transfer case control module. I disassembled and cleaned those 3 connectors and the problem went away. This was after replacing the module above the spare tire, and the mega fuse and all that crap. There was a TSB out that was 120 pages long dealing with this issue. Loss of GM Lan.

My truck is still problem-free since I cleaned the ground connection.

Alright guys. I've been experiencing the problem again. First time (since last documented in this thread) was a few weeks ago. I cleaned the ground to the frame again and the problem went away. Then yesterday on my way to work, my headlights flickered whenever I pressed on the brake. Expressway driving was fine aside from that, but when I arrived at my parking spot (slow moving and turning) the power steering went crazy and the steering wheel jarred like it's done before. This always happens when I'm going slow and turning the wheel. Never when I'm moving at a decent speed and turning the wheel such as in an intersection. Alternator not putting enough out because the rpm's are low?

Again today while I was driving, the info screen said my power steering assist was reduced and to drive with caution. I always have my phone plugged into the 110v outlet under the dash. I noticed my voltage meter was quite a bit below 14. Maybe 11. I never noticed that before. It also seems that this always happens when I have the AC on high. I thought perhaps the condensate is shorting something out.

I'll update the thread if I figure anything out. I'm wondering if a high output alternator and 2nd battery would eliminate this problem.

Just got the truck back from the dealership. I was informed their master tech could not find any issues consistent with service bulletin #PIT5405A. I was given the typical "Could not replicate, therefore, problem does not exist" response.

Member Txjose is having the same issue. Link to his thread.

Random service stabilitrak message, service trailer brake system, service 4WD, turn signal on right after turning on, transmission jerky and hard shifting, cruise control disengage, dashboard needles going crazy, no power.

Finaly fixed! What it was? The big wire harness and connector right on top of the turbo pipe. The heat from the pipe cause the failure and short circuit inside the connector. Picture of the bad part attached.

If you having this issues with your truck, check the connector. Shake the connector with the truck park and engine running and see if the random errors appear on the dash board.

The fix is not easy, I wasted a lot of time with the dealerships and took it to diesel repair shop and they figured out in 5 minutes. Don't waste your time with the dealer they are just retarded. I heard all can of BS from the dealer from can't replicate the issue to software updates but never solved the problem.

My truck:

2015 Silverado 3500 HD, Duramax 6.6 diesel.

I hope this help somebody, I'm not sure if this the problem what everybody on this post is having but in my case it was.
