Truck drives then slips out

Hi I need help, I have a 01 gmc Sierra with a 4.8l. I was driving one day and drove good all day then came to a stop light. Went to go it went then out of nowhere lost all movement no pop no nothing all I got was revs. So I pull over and let it sit for a couple minutes turn it back on it drives then after a couple minutes or so it slips out again. It just does it over and over. But whenever I stop turn truck off for couple minutes then back on it will drive fine, then after a couple miles it will slip out. I trying to see if I can avoid a shop visit. Any idea what it is?

Trans fluid burnt?

 

My Camaro did this a few years ago. Pulled trans apart and the forward clutches were toast.
