2015i GMC 2500 HD SLT trans blown

Recommended Posts

Driving home from the race track yesterday and felt like the trans was surging some but seems to go away while driving and

thought that it might be the roads being bumpy on the turnpike. Got off the turnpike and was about three miles from home when the trans

stopped moving... it would just rev up like in neutral. Lucky I was going down hill towards a red light and turned into a gas station.

Hit the OnStar Blue button and got a hold of a nice lady to get it towed. She finally got someone to come within an hour instead of

two so I wait...and wait...and wait till the guy is 2 hours late so I call AAA they come in 20 minutes and off to the dealer to drop

off truck. The guy that picked up the truck just bought one the same as mine on Monday and I can see his expression on his face...

Crap.... what did I just buy! LOL

I have 2,581 miles on the truck and have not even had my first oil change yet! I even had it back to the dealer to check ALL

fluids last month so it was on record that it was done. I forgot to check the trans temp when it went so no help there. Any one else

had this happen to them? It will go into reverse somewhat but not good. I left the truck at the dealer so they can at least back into

the garage and not have to push the 8K truck. Will here from the dealer on Monday to see what happened.

Dealer called today and said they are having problems with converters...it must have been over heated as they got into truck today that has been sitting since

Saturday and the trucked moved forward so they took it on a mile run and the trans started to slip so the trans is out now and checking the guts inside.

Can I trust this truck anymore? My wife drives this and don't need her to have to deal with it breaking down. I will trade this in if so!!! Come on GM!! 2,500 miles

Didn't even change the oil yet!! Will keep updating as they call.

Dealer just called and said the converter let loose and tore up the trans...trans will need to be torn down to the bare case and start from new! Nice!

At least I get to keep my original trans case. Also told them to redo the frame for rust and bolts around the bumpers that are rusting as well. For $55,000

ya think you would get a little more time then 6 months till it fell apart and rusted. Maybe by Friday it will be done??

Good luck! Had my frame done about 6 months ago by the dealer so far it hasn't come back.

This will be the second time for frame rust...was in two months ago to be redone. Starting to peal again.

I believe you are number 2 or 3 on this forum that ran into this issue. All low miles too. The one I can think of, he had a near max GVWR truck 6.0 chassis cab with a body on it and the converter let go.

Dealer called today and said come get it! Yes!!

They gave a parts list two pages long of all the parts they replaced or cleaned. Trans cooler and lines were also cleaned out and was driven a few

miles to make sure all good. Seems to shift softer then before and now my trans temp is 121 while driving from around 200 or so. Had oil/lube and

tire rotation done at same time with 23 point inspection. All fluids checked and they even detailed it for me. They went the extra mile to make sure

this was done right! Same trans case was used so still number matching to the truck so I am happy with that. I think a hand built trans is just as good

if not better then a new one...this will have all the updated parts so I hope all is well now.

Glad they took care of you! Still problem free on my '15 6.0 with 12,266miles:)

Hope lots of trouble free miles for you! My brother in-law has the same truck as mine and is the same miles as you so they do work!

I should never have problems again...I hope

Hey All, I'm new to this forum. My 2012 Sierra HD SLT is my first 2500. I just recently had this same transmission problem and rebuild with my gasser after 97,000 miles. The dealer did a great job on my trans, it never shifted this smoothly before. (Maybe they can send the tech to the manufacturing plant for a little closer QC inspection on the transmissions?)

My dealer also said they've only seen 2 transmissions in the past 2 years. I find it hard to believe as this truck clanged away (mainly to/from park) from mile 500 and noticeably herkey-jerkey after 20k. She would not leave first gear comfortably and was very tough uphill. I've always used synthetic fluids on ahead of recommended services.

I've decided to trade her towards a new 2015 HD gasser but am concerned about the low lighting, shaking, and transmission. Anyway this is my first time posting, and appreciate all the info here.

Best to All fellow 2500 peeps!!
