And where in the country is it actually illegal to talk on a phone and drive?

In situations like this, you always need to remember that there's a reason that these people make minimum wage...

Black, it sounds like typical Komiefornia.

Thank goodness you and I live in the few parts where we can act as americans

I've used a valet one time, and when I picked up my truck (previous truck) the moonroof was left vented and the roof liner got soaked.

I blame both them and me though, as I should have closed it and all the windows when handing over the keys, just because I know it's typically younger people working those jobs.

In this case, I would have been upset, but I think you went a bit overboard calling for his head. Chalk it up as a bad experience, don't valet again (at least not at that place).

Hope your mother is doing better.

It is illegal to talk on a hand held phone or to text and drive in California. .

And for the record my reference to his salary was for the purpose to point out that he didn't make enough money to pay to replace that truck. In Kalifornia, one of the stupid laws is that the vehicle is insured, not the driver. So, even if someone steals your vehicle and they crash into another car, it goes against your insurance. So who ever is driving your vehicle is basically covered under your insurance.

Many states have made the use of a phone without a handsfree device illegal. So, the answer would be many places.

People make mistakes, shit happens, it's not really fair of you to start belittling the guy and insulting him, plus the whole my vehicle is worth 3 times your salary bullshit is so obnoxious, not everyone has the luxury of working a good job and sometimes they have to work a shitty job where they deal with shitty people. The guy above is right, there gonna do **** all and laugh at the crazy guy. I'm not saying you shouldn't of stopped him, but being a ass gets you no where.

I considered once to park my truck at the airport.

So I did a little research for prices and fees.

This way I've found out that the long term parking lot is valet parking only.

Already having a wrenching feeling in my guts I started digging a little deeper and found some customer reviews.

From "those were there before" - scratches and dents, broken glass and tail lights up to having 18km more on the clock.

I gladly spend 120 bucks (one way) for a cab and left the truck at home.

My 2 cents would be...

Debra's been in a stressful situation, so maybe that's the reason for going crazy towards the kid the way she did. Not gonna say it's okay but sometimes we're stressed out and act just different. I did for sure more often than I should have.

Debra, I hope your mom is okay!

The other thing.... we do know this is just another a minimum wage job. To me people still have to do a good job no matter what they earn, especially if they handle someone elses property.

And there are a lot of people doing a good job despite the little money they get. Keep that in mind!

If I can't trust those kids I won't let them park my $$$ truck, plain and simple. And if the wage comes into play because I feel like they won't be able to pay for damages I sure would park my truck myself right from the start.

Other than that, nobody's perfect. Life goes on :)

While I'm certain there is at least -some- truth in what you say, it's still nothing more than excusing bad behavior. I've lost my head at various times in my life, but I've realized my mistake afterward and did what I could to atone for it and tried hard to learn from the experience so it wouldn't happen again.

No, we actually don't know that. The parking attendants do not work for the hospital - they work for a contracted company. And, we have absolutely no idea what sort of pay structure that they have, especially if the service itself is free to patrons and tipping is not permitted.

I have more respect for low wage earners that take pride in their work than the billionaires of the world that are seemingly paid for thumping their chest. I've had success in life because of how I view "my work." Anything and everything that I do is a reflection of who I am as a person. By taking pride in everything that I do that others see, I am doing my best to always show the best aspects of myself. It's how I was raised.

Well said. I realize nobody is perfect. That's exactly why you can't go out and belittle somebody.....regardless of "your" situation. People just need to take a step back sometimes and wonder what it feels like on the other side of the gun.

Debra, is your mom doing better?

@ember1205

Agreed.

It wasn't my intention to excuse her behavior, that's why I wrote that I'm not saying it's okay.

There is just no need to "attack" her by saying she seems to be a bitch.

It doesn't take a lot to find out that park attendants don't earn a lot.

My respect isn't based on a salary at all and also not on a job, in no way. I tried to explain that, looks like I didn't do a good job - sorry for that. So I'm 100% with you when you say it's based on your pride you put in your job.

Though Debra feels like the wage could be a problem and I respect her view as well as I respect yours.

@sahls01gmc

Agreed! :)

just a side note.

Since some of you were discussing if using a cell phone while driving is legal or not, consider this:

My truck starts "yelling" at me when I put the shifter into gear and the parking brake is still engaged.

I can only assume but it's obvious that the kid was so distracted by the phone call that he didn't see the red warning light in the dash and didn't hear the sound of the warning chime.

I'd have give him an earful too.
