I have an issue similar to this. 02 gmc 1500 2wd. It started and ran fine when I pulled it into the shop to change the turn signal lever. Now it fires and dies. Security light stays on. It does this every time the key is turned off and on. Unhooking the battery didnt change anything. Idea's anyone?

I had this issue on a 2000 Suburban I used to drive and it turned out to be the security sensor on the top of the ignition tumbler. If you take off the plastic steering column cover and look right on top of the ignition tumbler there will be a small plug with three wires. In my case that plug had become worn and intermittently had a poor connection which caused the security system to think the truck was being hotwired.

Same issue I had, on a 99 silverado. Took each wire, out of connector, and slightly pinch metal, closer. Problem solved.
